California poisonous nail polish is also distributed in Alberta. Qianqian's fingers are painted with cinnamon nail polish. It looks very beautiful, but it may be poisonous. A just-released report shows that some nail polish claims to be non-toxic, but actually contains three dangerous chemicals: toluene, dibutyl phthalate and formaldehyde, which may cause developmental disorders and asthma. The California Department of Toxic Substances Control said three chemicals have been linked to chronic diseases after inhalation. The 121,000 licensed technicians in California's nail salons, mostly young Asian women, are most at risk. The DTSC randomly checked 25 oils used only in nail salons, including many that claimed to be free of toluene, dibutyl phthalate and formaldehyde, and found that many of the chemicals have been linked to developmental disorders and conditions such as asthma. Twelve oils claimed to be toluene-free, but 10 actually contained toluene, four of which had higher levels. Spot checks also found that seven types of oils claimed to be free of three toxic chemicals, but five actually contained more than one toxic chemical. Products mislabeled include: Sation 99 basecoat, Sation 53 pink nail color, Dare to Wear nail lacquer, Chelsea 650 Baby’s Breath nail lacquer, New York Summer nail lacquer, Paris Spicy 298 nail lacquer, Sunshine nail lacquer, Cacie Light Free Gel base coat, Cacie topcoat, Golden Girl top coat, Nail Art Top-N-Seal and High Gloss topcoat. After investigation, these nail polishes were also found in the state, retailing in nail salons and online. The price is $12 for children and $16 for adults.
