Local workers earn less than national average (Alberta Times) The average worker in the Phoenix area earned less than 1 per cent of the U.S. average last year, according to data released last week by the Department of Labor Statistics. In May 2011, the local average hourly wage was $21.61, while the national average hourly wage was $21.74. The proportion of office and administrative support (commonly known as white-collar workers) is higher than that of the country as a whole. 18.3% of local employees are engaged in white-collar workers, compared with 16.7% nationwide. The highest hourly wage in the local area is in management at $48.07, followed by the legal profession at $44.99.
