Arizona Governor signed a ban on Planned Parenthood funding (Alberta Times) Arizona Governor Brewer signed a bill last Friday to cut off the use of taxpayer funds by Planned Parenthood for abortion services. The state government has previously passed several anti-abortion bills, including that pregnant women whose gestation period exceeds 20 weeks are not allowed to terminate the pregnancy without evidence that the fetus will affect the life of the pregnant woman; except to save the life of the pregnant woman, the use of public funds for abortion is prohibited. But lawmakers and supporters of the anti-abortion bill say more detailed legislation is needed to ensure no taxpayer dollars indirectly support abortion services. "Our greatest concern is the impact of this bill on those who do not have health insurance," said Brian Howard, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Arizona. "As a health care organization that has served Arizona for 78 years, we remain committed to providing professional, non-judgmental and confidential care to needy women who do not want to have children and receive birth control."
