A young woman drove after becoming intoxicated and forgot her baby on the roof of the car (Alberta Times) A marijuana-smoking mother was arrested in Phoenix today after she accidentally put her 5-week-old son in a child safety seat on the roof of her car and drove off, police said. Phoenix police spokesman Thomas Holmes said the baby boy fell from the roof of the car in the middle of an intersection and was found uninjured with his body strapped into a seat. He said that the police detained the 19-year-old mother Crowther on suspicion of child abuse and serious injury. The baby boy was taken to a local hospital as a precaution and is in the custody of the state's Child Protective Services. Holmes said in a written statement: "The suspect appeared to have put the baby boy on the roof of the car and drove away, forgetting that the baby was still on the roof of the car." Police said that Crowther and her boyfriend smoked marijuana in the park before the incident and took the baby boy to buy beer. The police stopped their car and her boyfriend was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs with a baby boy in his car. Holmes said police learned that Crowther was upset about her boyfriend's arrest, so he drove to a friend's house and "apparently smoked an extra pipe or two of marijuana." He said Crowther left around midnight with the baby boy asleep in his safety seat and she put him on the roof of the car. Crowther apparently didn't realize the baby boy was missing until he got home.
