Most of the best retirement cities are in the Southwest. Tucson is on the list. Forbes announced on the 7th the magazine's list of the 25 best retirement cities in the United States in 2012. Most of these cities are located in the west and south because of their pleasant climate, low taxes and healthy lifestyles. These cities include Ashville, North Carolina, Cape Coral, Florida, Austin, Texas, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Tucson in this state. Forbes executive editor Janet. "There's an element of warm weather in these locations," Novak said. "That said, we also selected some cities with cooler climates because they have a good economy or low crime rates. We also looked at health services." The magazine considered factors such as cost of living, crime rates, taxes, opportunities to be active and volunteer, health services, housing prices, and more. The cities selected this year are located in 18 states. The reason Tucson is on the list: Since the housing bubble burst in 2006, the average home price has dropped by 50%. The average home price in Tucson is $126,000, the state tax is 4.54%, and the population is 520,100. As early as February, the Top Retirements website ranked Tucson fourth in the nation's top ten retirement cities, and Prescott, another city in the state, ranked tenth.
