Arizona Governor Wants Day Labor Rule to Go into Effect Lawyers for Arizona Governor Jen Brewer are asking an appeals court to reverse the ruling, allowing a little-known part of the SB1070 law to go into effect. In addition to giving Arizona police the power to ask for identification of anyone suspected of being an illegal immigrant while on duty, SB 1070 also prohibits anyone from holding a sign on the street or highway looking for work during traffic jams. The day labor regulation went into effect in July 2010 with SB 1070, but it was put on hold by U.S. District Court Judge Susan Bolton due to outcry among Latinos over the police enforcement portion. The governor hopes that the above-mentioned courts will separate day labor regulations while reviewing SB1070 so that they can take effect as soon as possible.
