> Two Chrysler vehicles have been inspected due to potential safety issues. The U.S. safety regulator has launched an investigation into the 2012 Jeep Grand of Chrysler Group LLC. Cherokee and 2009 to 2010 Dodge Ram 1500. Such defect investigations are often a precursor to vehicle recalls. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said it is investigating a potential power steering hose failure in about 106,800 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokees that could cause fires under the hood. NHTSA is also investigating a potential rear differential failure in about 230,000 2009 to 2010 Dodge Ram 1500s, which could cause the rear wheels to lock and cause loss of vehicle control. NHTSA's defect investigation office said that the power steering hose in the 2012 Grand Cherokee may have failed, causing the power steering fluid to leak in the engine compartment, and the fluid "could be ignited by hot surfaces in the engine compartment." In its investigation of Dodge Ram vehicles, NHTSA has received 12 complaints of rear wheels locking due to differential differential failures, including one incident that caused the vehicle to crash into a concrete pier.
