Due to scorching hot weather and little wind, environmental regulators issued high-concentration ozone alerts for two consecutive days in the Phoenix area this week. Maricopa County air quality monitoring officials said the weather is expected to continue to be hot and windless this week, and the temperature in the Phoenix area will remain above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, which will easily cause ozone to accumulate in a large area and not be able to dissipate. Experts say ozone is an invisible gas formed by the accumulation of heating radiation from the sun and other air pollution. High ozone concentrations can irritate the lungs and worsen asthma attacks.
