> First case of West Nile virus confirmed in Pinal County Pinal County this week confirmed the first human case of West Nile virus infection in the state this year. County health officials said a woman in her 30s who lives in North Florence tested positive. The infection is not deep and there are only mild symptoms. Health department officials did not release the woman's name. Pinal County is now tracking cases of venomous mosquito infections throughout the county, including in the municipalities of Maricopa, San Tan Canyon, Arizona City, Florence and Coolidge. There have been seven human cases of West Nile virus in the state so far this year, six of them in Maricopa County. The virus comes from mosquito bites and causes complications such as fever, nausea, headaches and muscle aches. State Department of Health data shows 67 people were infected with West Nile virus in the state last year, four of which were fatal.
