Arizona non-profit organization donated $11 million to two California campaign groups (Alberta Times) The California Supreme Court ordered an Alberta non-profit organization to disclose to California voters the records of its $11 million donation to two California campaign groups last month. California Attorney General Kamala Harris and the California Division of Campaign Finance are investigating whether donations to the California campaign by an Arizona-based nonprofit called Americans for Responsible Leadership were legal because the group did not disclose donor information. Harris noted that ARL donated in October to a California political action committee that opposed Gov. Jerry Brown's tax initiative, and to another group that supports restrictions on union fundraising. Federal law allows nonprofits not to disclose the names of donors, but California regulations require the government to require political donors to disclose their identities.
