The two latest surveys show that after five years of use, Asian imported cars have the best retention of value and the highest resale value. Two different used car resale value indicators show that Toyota and Honda brand vehicles retain their value better than other car brands.

The well-known Kelley Blue Book (KBB) used car price forecast shows that for the second consecutive year, Toyota and its luxury car brand Lexus rank first in resale value. Honda and its luxury car brand Acura ranked first in the ALG survey.

When further segmenting different car styles, the KBB survey showed that Honda performed very well, and its three cars, including Fit, Civic and Accord, are leaders in their respective fields.

In the ranking of individual models, the Automotive Lease Guide (ALG) gave Hyundai Motors great recognition. Its Elantra, Azera and Santa Fe are all leaders in their respective fields.

Overall, a new car purchased today will be worth just 38.2 percent of its original value five years from now, KBB says. This is a 2.5% increase over the value retention rate of a 2012 car after five years.
