The U.S. team won the "Jinshi Award" in the "Second Chinese Culture Knowledge Competition Finals". Liu Zhiruo, a student from Zuxun Chinese School in Tucson, was appointed as the captain of the U.S. team. [Contribution from the National Association of Chinese Schools] The U.S. team participated in the "Second Overseas Chinese Youth Chinese Culture Knowledge Competition Winners Training Camp" held in Xi'an from October to November. In the final stage, after fierce competition in the written test, eloquence and talent show, six teams from the United States, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines stood out and entered the finals. In the live finals watched by delegates from the "Second World Chinese Education Conference", they won the fourth place in the group and received the "Jinshi Award"; Liu Ruijia (female, 13 years old, one of the youngest representatives among the fourteen teams) of the American team won the "Best Performance Award". The American team was established by the National Association of Chinese Schools with the support of hundreds of Chinese schools affiliated to the association. It was selected from the winners of the "Second Overseas Chinese Youth Chinese Culture Knowledge Competition" who received higher scores, combined with their speech ability, Chinese talents and other specialties, after several rounds of oral examinations and speech scoring. The five team members come from Zuxun Chinese School in Tucson, Arizona, Cary Chinese School in North Carolina, Modern Chinese School in Cincinnati, Modern Chinese School in Ohio, and Chinese School in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The average age of the American team members is the youngest among all the representative teams (three are 13 years old, one is 14 years old, and one is 16 years old). The captain is Liu Zhiruo from Tucson Chinese School in Arizona, and the vice-captain is Lin Hai from Cary Chinese School in North Carolina. The leader of the American team is Shuai Zhiruo, vice president of the National Association of Chinese Schools. This is the first time that the National Chinese Schools Association team has entered the finals. Under the leadership of the captain and deputy captain, the members of the American team are united and friendly and help each other; they are energetic and eager to learn; they respect all teachers, volunteers and hotel staff, and show a very good spirit. During the entire training period, they received many praises from the training teachers and staff; at the finals held at the Xi'an TV Performing Arts Hall, their polite and generous manners and their calm attitude when an unexpected microphone malfunction occurred left a good impression on the leaders of overseas Chinese schools who came to watch the competition. The Overseas Chinese Affairs Office's briefing on the "Second World Chinese Education Conference" held simultaneously in Xi'an included words from principals praising the outstanding performance of the American team. Because this competition was in the middle of the semester, some older and more mature students who had obtained high scores in the second competition were unable to take time off to participate. However, with the active registration of winners from all over the association and the support of parents, the association selected five team members on time to compete in Xi'an. Compared with other national teams that study Chinese full-time or half-time, the members of the US team all come from weekend Chinese schools, and they also showed a certain knowledge of Chinese culture during the competition. This is the result of many years of training by many Chinese schools in the association, and it also brings great encouragement and comfort to many people in the association who are engaged in Chinese education. The U.S. competition of the "Third Overseas Chinese Youth Chinese Culture Knowledge Competition" hosted by the National Association of Chinese Schools was completed in late November. The Association Council looks forward to producing more winners in this competition, which will be conducive to the selection of the next team to participate in the finals.
