The Los Angeles police revealed on December 16 that the person who shot the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles was a 67-year-old Chinese man named Zhang Baoliang from Shanghai. Before the incident, the gunman had a fight with a security guard outside the Chinese Consulate. An argument broke out because the security guard put the slogan he left in the trash can. The gunman then fired nine shots, missing the target and leaving bullet holes outside the Chinese Consulate. Three hours after the incident, the gunman surrendered to a nearby police station. The police station confiscated a 9 mm pistol from him and charged him with "intentional homicide." The police set his bail at 100,000 yuan. It is said that Zhang Baoliang is now living in Los Angeles and is about to obtain "naturalized" U.S. citizenship.
