On the evening of January 18, the lobby on the first floor of the Chinese Consulate General in Los Angeles was brightly lit, decorated with lanterns and colorful, and full of joy. The Consul General held the 2012 Chinese New Year Reception for the Overseas Chinese Community. Consul General Qiu Shaofang and his wife both wore red Tang suits full of Chinese festive characteristics and stood at the entrance to greet the leaders of the overseas Chinese delegation and representatives of the overseas Chinese from the consular district with smiling faces. Zhang Huafang, president of the Arizona Chinese Cultural Exchange Association, and Qiu Lan, the former concertmaster of the Central Orchestra of China who lives in the United States and is now in Phoenix, were the first to enter the Consulate General accompanied by reporters. They were welcomed by Consul General Qiu Shaofang and his wife as the first distant visitors. Everyone greeted them cordially, had a brief conversation and took a group photo. Consul General Qiu Shaofang delivered a speech, extending holiday greetings and best wishes to overseas Chinese friends in the consular district. Consul General Qiu said that 2011 was a year of complex and changeable international situations and an arduous and arduous year for China's reform, development and stability. The Chinese people have united as one, forged ahead and made remarkable new achievements, laying a solid foundation for building a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way. China has continuously strengthened friendly exchanges with other countries around the world, actively participated in international cooperation, and made its own contributions to maintaining world peace and promoting human development. Mr. Qiu said with emotion that over the past year, overseas Chinese friends in the consular district, with deep affection and love for their hometown, have given full play to their own advantages, participated in China's construction, promoted cross-strait exchanges, promoted friendly cooperation between the consular district and the United States and China, and actively supported and assisted the work of our embassy. On behalf of all my colleagues at the Consulate General, I would like to extend my sincere respect and heartfelt thanks to you all. He then emphasized that in 2012, facing new opportunities and challenges, China will continue to thoroughly implement the Scientific Outlook on Development and strive to consolidate the good momentum of economic and social development. Tonight, the lobby on the first floor of the Consulate General was very lively. Overseas Chinese leaders, who get together rarely in a year, chatted and exchanged words and wished each other well. Zhang Huafang, president of the Arizona Chinese Cultural Exchange Association, has just assumed the dual role of chairman of the Longgang Office. He met with Deputy Consul General Sun Weide, Education Counselor Chen Zhunmin, Overseas Chinese Consul Wang Peng, Yu Xiong and other officials of the Chinese Consulate. The Chinese Consulate officials were very concerned about the situation of the overseas Chinese community in Phoenix and expressed some pertinent and constructive opinions. Zhang Huafang also humbly paid a courtesy visit to Zhou Yuxuan of the American Society for International Cultural Exchange, Sun Yaoning of the US-China Cultural Association, Chen Jun of the China Overseas Exchange Association, Chen Xieping of the Traditional Overseas Chinese Society Zhixiaodu, Lei Shuqin of Diyuantang, Liu Jianmin and Li Yang of the China Unification Federation, etc. Everyone spoke freely and exchanged their experiences.
