The Chinese Language and Literature College of Alberta, Chung Hwa Academy, and the Phoenix-Taipei Sister City Committee, in conjunction with the mainstream society in the United States and mainstream schools, jointly organized a series of cultural exchange activities in 2012 to celebrate the Chinese New Year, the Chinese Dragon Festival, and promote Chinese culture and Taiwanese folk customs. Multicultural exchanges between East and West, every activity was a complete success. The Chinese Language Institute of Alberta, Chung Hwa College, and the Phoenix-Taipei Sister City Committee have been busy from January 11 to 27, being invited to mainstream schools in the United States to teach about Chinese culture and festivals, and introduce the history of the Lunar New Year and Allusions, and provide guidance on folk art and talent, and celebrate the auspicious Year of the Dragon with teachers and students. The schools invited to visit are: classes at Happy Valley School, classes at Lincoln Learning Center School, classes at Aipaki School, classes at Richard Mille School, classes at Montesori School, classes at Camelback School, as well as other public and private schools and church schools, etc., to introduce the Chinese New Year to teachers and students and conduct cultural exchanges. In addition, the Chinese Language Institute of Alberta, Chung Hwa College, and the Phoenix-Taipei Sister City Committee were invited to MIM, the Musical Instrument Museum, located in Phoenix. It is the largest and most international music instrument museum in the United States. The Museum of Musical Instruments is responsible for celebrating the Year of the Dragon at the Museum’s Founding Hall from 11 am to 5 pm on January 28, including exhibitions of Chinese culture and Taiwanese folk art, guidance for adults and children on Lunar New Year arts and crafts, and production Spring Festival lanterns, auspicious lanterns, auspicious dragons and dragon dance crafts to welcome the new year, various origami and paper-cut arts, musical windmills, and the beauty of calligraphy. The activities are suitable for all ages and are loved by adults and children. The entire hall is always packed with people and very lively. At the same time, all day long on January 28, promotional Taiwan videos provided by the Los Angeles Economic and Cultural Office News Team were played in the founding hall, including Taiwan 4 Seasons DVD, Taiwan Music Forward DVD, Taiwan Four Seasons Violin Ensemble, Xiangyin Four Rhymes Guanxuan Music and other beautiful Taiwanese music appreciation, in line with the theme of the Musical Instrument Museum, to celebrate the Lunar New Year in the Year of the Dragon with everyone. The Xianglong New Year Chinese Festival event is sponsored by Li Linglin and Qiu Wenqi, and the participation of the whole family, as well as the assistance of all volunteers, makes all activities a smooth and successful success, promoting Chinese culture and Taiwanese folk customs, and promoting multicultural exchanges between the East and the West.
