2012 is the Year of the Dragon, and it is also the 44th year that the Overseas Chinese Federation of Greater Phoenix City has hosted the National Day of the United States; and the 2012 Miss Chinese Phoenix Beauty Pageant. Therefore, the theme of this year’s National Day pageant is set to "Celebrate the National Day with Dragons and Phoenixes". How can we prepare for this "Dragon and Phoenix" celebration? Recently, the Overseas Chinese Federation has elected a new leadership team with Zhang Huafang as the chairman. The team is full of energy, but still lacks experience. Fortunately, it has the support of senior overseas Chinese, the help of 17 subordinate groups, and the help of volunteers. The work has already begun. The first task is to establish the organizational structure for holding the event, determine the content and format of the event, and assign responsibilities to people. Everyone can divide the work and cooperate to get the job done together. "Dragon and Phoenix Dance" is the information platform of this event. It will provide the latest reports on the Overseas Chinese Federation's National Day and beauty pageant related content to the overseas Chinese community. The first thing I want to report is that the new team has received support from the senior overseas Chinese. Mr. Yu Wenjin, a senior overseas Chinese leader, not only encouraged the juniors, but also set an example and took the lead in sponsoring the contestants. Mr. Yu Wenjin was elected as the Chairman of the Overseas Chinese Federation as early as 1975. He has spared no effort to serve the overseas Chinese for decades. Last year, he was awarded the "Lifetime Achievement Award for Service to the Overseas Chinese Community" by the Overseas Chinese Federation. Secondly, there was Deng Chaoju, the previous chairman of the Overseas Chinese Federation, who imparted experience and provided suggestions on the issues that the new team asked for advice. During his tenure, Deng Chaoju successfully organized two National Day and beauty pageant events. He personally led a team to the Tucson Chinese Cultural Center for exchanges; visited the Los Angeles Chinese Association for the first time; led the beauties to Phoenix TV to learn from the experience; volunteered at TV Station 8; and sent the beauties to Tzu Chi to study and contribute; the Overseas Chinese Federation also successfully organized China Week, Chinese people celebrated the 100th anniversary of the founding of the province of Alberta, and other activities, which were widely praised by everyone. Third, this year’s new team includes talents from the ABC Department, the Mandarin Department, and the Cantonese Department, each with their own expertise, which is conducive to uniting the different forces of the overseas Chinese community. Chairman Zhang Huafang has served as Vice Chairman of the Overseas Chinese Federation for two years and has practical work experience and good connections. In addition, in addition to the strong assistance of the 17 groups of the Overseas Chinese Federation, a volunteer team as the "second echelon" has also been established. This group of volunteers who are not interested in fame and fortune is particularly valuable. We very much welcome everyone to join the volunteer team, contribute their talents and set an example. Fourth, in addition to celebrations and beauty pageants, the Overseas Chinese Federation also hopes that other groups will join in the victory so that more activities can be held. Currently planned are ball games, photography exhibitions or painting exhibitions, etc., to make the National Day programs more colorful.

In the next issue, "Dragon and Phoenix Dance" will continue to promote various heroes and activity progress to everyone.
