(Overseas Chinese Communications) The 2013 Miss Phoenix Chinese Beauty Pageant has begun. On April 13, members of the board of directors of the Phoenix Overseas Chinese Federation and the person in charge of the beauty pageant held a welcome meeting at Mushu Restaurant. Seven of the 12 registered beauties came to register. They are: Angela Zhang, April Choi, Yuchen Liang, Jennifer Bi, Jennifer Price-Smith, Diana Diep, Serrena Lee and Kaylee Wong. The remaining five absentees due to business reasons are: Lacey Wen, Lisa Baer, Julie Tang, April Choi, and Danni Du. They will report to New Oriental Art School on April 20. This year's contestants range in age from 18 to 24, including native ABCs, the next generation of Chinese immigrants, Vietnamese-Chinese, and Chinese girls adopted by American parents. Some of them were ready to run for the election last year, but they stayed until this year to register again because they were not old enough. Most of the beauties are talkative and confident, letting people see the style of the new generation born in the 1990s. For this event, the Overseas Chinese Federation specially arranged a period for the beauties to express themselves freely, and the effect was quite good. The beauties rushed to tell some anecdotes and even "embarrassing things" in their lives, which made the whole room laugh. Angela Zhang, a beauty contestant, said that she once donated blood and thought she was brave and not afraid of facing things. But when she saw the bright red blood being drawn out, she was so frightened that she fainted; Vietnamese-Chinese Diana Diep said that she once performed on stage and other girls danced very well, but she was in the center but completely forgot her movements and was very embarrassed; Jeniffer, who was adopted by American parents at the age of ten months, said Price-Smith, whose Chinese name was inspired by the Chinese diving queen "Guo Jingjing", was chosen by her parents. The meaning is that she will be as bright as a star in the future. She is so strong that she once participated in a scholarship competition with 5,000 people. She was full of confidence, but she lost unexpectedly. There is also a Chinese girl Liang Yuchen, who has only been in the United States for more than a month. When it comes to her impression of the United States, American children here smile happily, but children from the mainland rarely smile. The 2011 beauty pageant runner-up, Ian Chen, talked about her beauty pageant experience with the beauties through her own personal experience. She encouraged the beauties to affirm themselves, be brave enough to face challenges, and work hard to create peaks in life. Some of the mothers of the beauties also accompanied their daughters to the scene. They thanked the Overseas Chinese Federation for providing an opportunity and place for their children to learn Chinese culture and train their skills. They were very happy to become volunteers and contribute to the National Day beauty pageant. This meeting was chaired by Deng Chaoju, former chairman of the Overseas Chinese Federation. On behalf of the Federation of Overseas Chinese, he welcomed the beauties to the Federation of Overseas Chinese family and introduced the history and current situation of the beauty pageant organized by the Federation of Overseas Chinese on National Day. The Overseas Chinese Federation will select 8 out of 12 beauties to participate in the beauty pageant this year, and arrange for the beauties to participate in a number of Chinese art and cultural activities, including participating in the Air Force Base and volunteering on TV No. 8. He wished the beauties to have a broader life path through the beauty pageant. The people in charge of the beauty pageant this year are Wen Linglin and Zhang Zhaohong. Wen Linglin has many years of experience in leading classes and works seriously and responsibly. The training tasks in terms of artistic skills are handed over to New Oriental School, under the responsibility of artistic director Hu Qiuzi. Mushu Restaurant prepared a delicious lunch for the beauties, and the kind and thoughtful old volunteer "Mama Yu" also brought delicious desserts. There are photos taken at the event, and you can browse them on the Overseas Chinese Federation website.
