Tang Xiaoxian's new book "Collected Works of Shang Jian Tang"

"Collected Works of Shang Jian Tang" is a literary and historical album, which collects Tang Xiaoxian's works in the United States "World Journal" and "Shang Jian Tang" in the past twenty years. Nearly 60 articles have been published in newspapers and magazines such as "World Weekly", "Alberta Times", and Taiwan's "China and Foreign Magazine", which are listed under five categories: "Family History Recollection, Nostalgic Reminiscences, Wuxi Stories", "Characters' Spring and Autumn Period", and "Miscellaneous Notes on Literature and History". "Shangjian Hall" is the name of the hall written by Wu Zhihui, the sage of the Revolution of 1911, for the Tang family. "Collected Works of Shang Jian Tang" is full of cultural atmosphere, elegant taste, fresh and concise writing style, and clear narrative structure. The articles cover Chinese and foreign figures, humanistic history, scientific inventions, wars, spies, folk customs, anecdotes, as well as Chinese quintessences such as poetry, calligraphy, painting, drama, traditional Chinese music, folk arts, and cooking. Many articles in the collection describe the author's childhood plaques, traditional Chinese paintings, couplets and other traditional cultural treasures that were confiscated by the Red Guards during the ten-year catastrophe. The author's helplessness and regret are revealed between the lines. When Tang Xiaoxian was in China, his other writings besides teaching were mainly about the introduction and research of British and American literature. After coming to the United States, in the 1990s, he began to publish articles in newspapers such as the "Alberta Times" and "World Journal", covering European and American culture, history, literature, characters, etc. After entering the 21st century, the focus of writing shifted to Chinese history, culture, and famous scholars. Tang Xiaoxian is currently a professional member of PEN America and a member of the American Hemingway Society. Two books have been published previously. They are: childhood memoir "Wandering to Hometown: Old Stories by the Famous Bridge in Qing Dynasty" and translated book "Hemingway in Cuba".
