Gao Zhizhong:
On August 26, when we looked at the results of the primary election, there was a Chinese candidate at the bottom, Huang Xinmin, who may not attract more people's attention, because he was defeated again. We can despise any loser, but we must not ignore his loss with a relaxed attitude. In the minds of us Chinese, he just hasn't won yet, and his victory was in 2016. Within two years, he ran for office twice, receiving 6,700 votes the first time and 11,000 votes the second time. With his personal efforts, he broke the record of zero candidates for the new Chinese overseas in the Eastern District. Although he lost the election with a high vote of 11,000 today, he has deeply surprised and admired the mainstream.
If you don’t believe that Chinese Americans cannot win, the decisive battle will be in 2016. I hope Huang Xinmin’s thank you dinner will be the first day of the 2016 election campaign. Huang Xinmin did not lose, and the day of victory is in 2016. Let us issue a rallying call to ourselves, support Huang Xinmin, and support Chinese candidates to fight again in 2016!
Thank you to Brother Gao, Uncle Albert Lin, Qiuzi, Helen, and all brothers and sisters for their support and encouragement, as well as all the help provided during the campaign. I'm sorry that we were not elected and failed to live up to everyone's expectations, but our election was not ugly. All this glory goes to all supporters.
Taking this opportunity, I would like to share some psychological words with you.
Running for election for the second time has consumed a lot of time, energy, and money. My background is in education, and fame has been a blessing to me. There are many ways to serve society, and participating in politics is only one of them, but it is a very powerful way. I hope to use this position to serve everyone more effectively politically.
Xinmin is a thin-skinned person who values personal privacy. Although I have political ambitions and ideals, running for the election made me lose the freedom to dress. I had to shave every day, and I had to be shameless to canvass votes and fundraisers. I also lost my personal privacy. During the process, I encountered verbal humiliation, English newspaper reporters wrote and slandered me, and my opponents sent people to make political threats and force me to withdraw. Xinmin once thought about withdrawing from the election. But running for the election also made me meet many good friends, broadened my horizons, and invisibly brought me closer to the various Asian ethnic groups and mainstream society.
If we calculate carefully, the total number of Asian votes in Chandler will not exceed 1,000 (excluding those who are not citizens, under 18 years old, not registered, and did not vote). These votes may not all be cast for me. In other words, of the 1,200 votes, at least 9,000 were from non-Asian groups. We're only 2,050 votes away from taking the seat, so we've really established a beachhead, a milestone for the Asian community in local politics.
However, if we give up here, people will forget about it two years later, all efforts will be in vain, and all beachheads and milestones will disappear. Even if someone else figures it out in the future, they will have to start from scratch. We Chinese or Asians, no matter how outstanding we are as individuals, still lack political status and can only play a dispensable supporting role. I think this is really a pity.
So, I boldly ask you all, please give me another chance, let us make another sprint together on the basis of the current situation. Chandler is the second-richest city in Arizona. The city government spends more than two million dollars every day. We only need a little bit to hold many meaningful activities. Just by slightly improving efficiency and reducing waste, you can save a lot of tax.
The policies and management projects formulated by the municipal government are closely related to the economy and quality of life of citizens. Chandler City Council's districts are larger than those of state legislators, and council members have more direct resources than state legislators. State legislators serve a term of two years, but Council members serve a term of four years. If I can be elected, excluding the time for campaigning, I will have at least three and a half years to stand from the perspective of citizens and work for everyone's welfare.
> Thank you all

"There are many ways to serve the society, and participating in politics is only one of them, but it is a very powerful way. I hope to use this position to serve everyone more politically." From your words, we will definitely support you again in two years. Don't be discouraged, as long as your intention is to benefit the public and your political opinions are constructive, you will definitely get the support of the public.
"Failure is the mother of success" Let's learn lessons from failure. Don’t forget to look for opportunities within these two years to let the citizens of Chandler, whether Asian or other ethnic groups, get to know you. Good luck in 2016.
