(Contributed by the Phoenix Chapter of the College of Science and Technology) The Phoenix Chapter of the National Association of Chinese Scientists and Engineers (ACSE) recently established a dragon boat team and plans to participate in the first round of the National Dragon Boat Races. Shortly after its establishment, the Dragon Boat Team of the College of Science and Technology received a generous donation from Xinxin Supermarket, a local Chinese business enterprise. For this reason, the Board of Directors of the Science and Technology College specially sent a letter to Xinxin Supermarket to express its gratitude. Thanks to Xinxin Supermarket for its enthusiastic support of local Chinese community activities.
Over the years, the first round of the National Dragon Boat Festival competition has been held at Tempe Town Lake Marina, roughly on the last weekend of March every year. However, this year the competition was postponed to early October due to the reconstruction of the dam. In addition to the Arizona State University team and teams sponsored by local companies, the participating teams also include teams from various universities in Oregon and Southern California in the United States, and even teams from Canada. Each year, the Dragon Boat Race selects a charity to support. In previous years, there was the Breast Cancer Survivors Association, and this year, the Disabled Veterans Association was added.
>Phoenix College of Science and Technology (ACSE) registered to participate in the competition for the first time this year. The dragon boat team currently has more than 30 members. Starting from the end of August, they will train every Saturday morning at the North Shore Pier of Tempe Town Lake in order to achieve good results in the October competition.
