Arizona Governor Doug Ducey announced
January 28th will be designated as Arizona’s ‘Asian Lunar New Year Day’
The Lunar New Year is an important holiday for Asians around the world. China’s Spring Festival, South Korea’s Scolnal Festival, Vietnam’s Tet Festival, including Mongolia and Tibet all celebrate it.
The Lunar New Year is the auspicious beginning of the New Year, or the end of the old and the new in personal life, business, government, and community.
The sound of New Year firecrackers, dragon lanterns, colorful lions, and gongs and drums bring prosperity, happiness and health to the New Year
According to the lunar calendar, which is based on the moon phase cycle, the Lunar New Year is generally between January 21st and February 20th. This year the new moon falls on January 28, the first day of the new year. The lunar calendar is linked to the twelve zodiac animals, and this year is the Year of the Rooster.
Celebrate the New Year with relatives and friends, exchange gifts, prepare sumptuous food, pay New Year greetings to the elderly, and worship ancestors. Arizona has many Asian descendants and immigrants. The rich culture they brought has made Arizona's culture more diverse. They continue to preserve their traditions and celebrate the Lunar New Year.
I, Governor Doug Ducey of Arizona, hereby declare January 28th as "Asian Lunar New Year Day" and encourage Arizona residents to celebrate the New Year of the Golden Rooster together!
At the same time, the Asia Sheng Spring Festival Gala will also be held at the Meisha Art Center that night. This year, the organizer, the Art Institute of Alberta, collaborates with the Modern Chinese School, Hope Chinese School, and Mencius Chinese School to bring different art forms such as Chinese, Chinese calligraphy, and Chinese painting to the scene. The children of Alberta will use their artistic works to show their cultural heritage and understanding to the audience! Starting from 5:00pm on January 28th, you can see Chinese children's painting and calligraphy exhibitions at the Meisha Art Center. You can also learn to write Chinese characters and translate your Chinese name with the teachers. The strong flavor of the Yasheng Lunar New Year will spread in Arizona from that day on.
Event sponsors Arizona’s vision and Wells Fargo Bank will also bring generous small gifts to the guests. It’s Chinese New Year! Firecrackers, fireworks, big red envelopes! Bring your children to experience the "Chinese Year" onsite, and you will be sure to surprise your guests!
