The 6th "World Cantonese Federation" grandly opened in Bangkok, Thailand [Guangdong Overseas Chinese Affairs Information] On the morning of August 13, the 6th World Cantonese Friendship Conference (referred to as the “World Cantonese Friendship Conference”), which has attracted much attention at home and abroad, opened grandly in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. More than 2,000 Cantonese talents from more than 30 countries and regions around the world gathered together to share their nostalgia and develop together, attracting widespread attention from the global overseas Chinese community. The 6th "World Cantonese Federation" is co-sponsored by the Chaozhou Association of Thailand, the Hakka Federation of Thailand, and the Guangzhou Association of Thailand. The theme of the conference is "Commemorating the Centennial of 1911 and Promoting Innovation and Development". It aims to commemorate the great contributions of overseas Chinese to the Revolution of 1911, enhance the unity and cooperation of Cantonese folks at home and abroad, strengthen friendship and exchanges, deepen economic and trade cooperation, and achieve win-win cooperation, so as to promote the harmonious innovation and development of overseas Chinese communities, promote economic, trade and cultural exchanges between Guangdong and Thailand, achieve new leaps in Guangdong's economic and social development, and promote the great cause of national reunification and rejuvenation. The opening ceremony of the 6th "World Cantonese Federation" was held in a warm atmosphere. Thailand's Deputy Prime Minister Charimcharin Yubanlong, Chinese Ambassador to Thailand Guan Mu, Deputy Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council Ma Rupei, Secretary-General of the Guangdong Provincial Government Tang Hao, and representatives of Cantonese rural sages successively delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. Wu Ruicheng, Chairman of the Standing Council of the "World Cantonese Federation" and Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Guangdong Province, made a work report. Li Haifeng, Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, Huang Huahua, Governor of Guangdong Province, and Zhou Zhenhong, Member of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department, wrote inscriptions for the conference. The 6th "World Cantonese Federation" is rich in content, diverse in form and exciting. Activities such as the Youth Forum and the Economic Forum, which brought together young talents from Guangdong and business elites, kicked off one after another. During the period, the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the "Happy Guangdong, Colorful World - Overseas Tour Exhibition of the Works of Calligraphers and Painters of the Guangdong Overseas Friendship Association" and the theme speech of "The Revolution of 1911 and Overseas Chinese" were also held. In recent years, Guangdong Province has actively strengthened strategic cooperation with ASEAN countries. In 2010, Guangdong Province and Thailand held an annual cooperation and coordination meeting as a platform to establish a long-term cooperation mechanism between Guangdong and Thailand and strengthened exchanges and cooperation in the fields of tourism, agriculture, education, health and other fields. Therefore, the holding of this "World Guangdong Federation" in Thailand is of special significance. The conference will be conducive to further expanding the cooperation space between Guangdong and Thailand, further promoting the Chinese culture, and promoting friendly exchanges between the people of Guangdong and Thailand with the ties of hometown, family ties and friendship. It is understood that Guangdong is an important hometown of overseas Chinese in the country. There are more than 30 million overseas Chinese and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan who are native to Guangdong. The footprints of Guangdong people can be found in more than 160 countries and regions on five continents of the world. Overseas Cantonese folks cherish their ancestors and love their hometown, are united and righteous, diligent and thrifty, and strive for self-improvement. They live in harmony with the local people, actively participate in local economic and social construction, and have made significant contributions to the development of their country of origin and the country of residence. Statistics show that by the end of 2010, Guangdong had actually used more than 170 billion U.S. dollars of funds from Hong Kong and Macao, accounting for about 68% of the total amount of foreign capital utilized; there were more than 50,000 overseas Chinese-funded enterprises in the province, accounting for two-thirds of the total number of foreign-funded enterprises; overseas Chinese, Hong Kong and Macao compatriots had donated more than 45 billion yuan to Guangdong charities and public welfare, making positive contributions to Guangdong's positive society. In order to promote the mutual contact of Cantonese people from all over the world and enhance the unity and cohesion of Cantonese people, in 1999, the Singapore Cantonese Association and the Federation of Malaysian Cantonese Associations jointly issued an initiative to organize the "World Cantonese Association" to Guangdong organizations around the world, which received positive response from Cantonese organizations around the world. As a social event for Cantonese folks around the world, with the support and promotion of leaders at all levels and the overseas Chinese affairs department of Guangdong Province, it has been successfully held for five times in countries and regions such as Singapore, Guangdong, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia, and has become an important platform for exchanges and cooperation between Cantonese societies and folks around the world. The 7th World Guangdong Friendship Conference is scheduled to be held in Macau in 2013.
