Grade K-2 1st Place: Song Tianou
Students in grades 3-5 can paint pictures more delicately. They combine some elements that represent Chinese culture, such as Tai Chi diagrams, dragons, the Great Wall, the moon, Moon cakes, etc. are integrated into their works, and they also artistically process life scenes to show the unique charm of the Jiangnan water town. The group's first prize-winning work "Returning from Fishing" depicts rich life scenes. The daughters of the fishing village, wearing simple batik clothes and unique hats, return home with a full load, joy on their faces and warmth in their hearts.
Grade 3-5 1st Place: Melinda Chang
The painting skills of students in grades 6 to 8 have begun to show, and their expressions of themes, colors, and cultural symbols have improved to a higher level. The first prize-winning work of this group is called "A Bird's Eye View of Shanghai". Simple pen and ink captures the iconic building of Shanghai - the Oriental Pearl TV Tower and countless surrounding skyscrapers, presenting Shanghai's modern and prosperous art to the audience.
Grade 6-8 1st Place: Tanya Yan
The works of students in grades 9-12 show very high painting skills. Even the interweaving of black and white lines in pen drawings can express rich scenes and give people endless associations. The oil paintings are even more colorful. Some depict colorful palaces, and some depict lifelike characters. The group's first prize-winning work "The Rise of the Dragon" is majestic and colorful. The realistic-style Temple of Heaven blooms with light and the creative dragon flies to the sky, symbolizing China's take-off.
Grade 9-12 1st Place: Jane Ho
Due to too many excellent works, the judges were overwhelmed and had difficulty choosing. Finally, among the four groups of entries, 4 first prizes, 2 second prizes, 8 third prizes, and more than 40 points for outstanding works were awarded. It is worth special mentioning that students from the Confucius Classroom also achieved good results in this competition. Among them, students from the Horse Shoe Classic Confucius Classroom won a total of one third prize, two excellent work awards and six HONORABLE MENTION, another Confucius Classroom in Gavilan received an Outstanding Work Award and 7 HONORABLE MENTIONs. On September 18, all the winning works will be displayed in the MU Building of ASU, and there will be a grand awards ceremony.
