(Contributed by Hualian, Alberta) The 7th "Phoenix Night" celebration of the 64th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China National Day reception and Mid-Autumn Festival will be co-sponsored by the Chinese Overseas Chinese Federation of Alberta (Alberta Overseas Chinese Federation) and the Confucius Institute at Arizona State University, and co-organized by the Chinese Federation of Greater Phoenix, the Chinese Students and Scholars Association of Arizona State University, the Alberta Modern Chinese School, the Alberta Hope Chinese School, and the "Alberta Times" newspaper. At the same time, we will join other overseas Chinese groups in Alberta to celebrate the National Day of the People's Republic of China and the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival. Preparations for the celebration are in progress. At that time, the overseas Chinese community in Arizona will hold a series of related celebration activities, including: Sino-US Cultural Forum, National Day Reception, Youth Photography Competition and Poster Competition, Excellent Works Exhibition, Talent Show and Mid-Autumn Festival Dance.
The fifth Sino-US Cultural Forum "Aspects of Sino-US Cooperation" will be held grandly in the MU 220 Conference Hall of Arizona State University from 3 to 5 pm on September 22. This is the fifth consecutive year that the Confucius Institute at Arizona State University and the Hualian Association of Alberta have jointly held such a large-scale event. Years of cooperation and efforts, especially the hard work of the Confucius Institute at Arizona State University, have made the Sino-US Cultural Forum a brand in the local series of activities to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day. We would like to use the media to express our sincere gratitude to the Confucius Institute at Arizona State University, other overseas Chinese groups and individuals in the province for their strong support to the community activities carried out by the Hualien Association of Alberta for many years!
Officials from the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Los Angeles will deliver a speech at the opening ceremony of the China-US Cultural Forum. Afterwards, Professor Smadelin, Director of the Confucius Institute at Arizona State University, will introduce the guest speakers to the guests. The keynote speakers invited to attend this forum include Steven Tu from Intel Corporation, Chief Architect of Mobile Product Line, Congressman Matt Salmon, United States Representative, 5th District of Arizona, and Briand Greer from Honeywell International, Inc., President.
After that, the National Day reception will be officially held in the MU Arizona Ballroom of Arizona State University from 5 to 7 pm that day. Officials from the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Los Angeles, representatives of the Arizona government, local dignitaries, and representatives of overseas Chinese organizations from all walks of life will attend the reception to celebrate the holiday with the people of Arizona. At the reception, the Confucius Institute at Arizona State University will also hold a grand award ceremony for the winners of the Arizona Youth Poster Contest and Photography Contest. The works of the winning contestants will be displayed to the guests in the National Day reception hall. Subsequently, the talent show and Mid-Autumn Festival Dance will be held in the same hall from 7 to 9 o'clock.
All the above activities will be free and open to the public. Here, we sincerely invite Chinese and overseas Chinese friends from all walks of life to actively participate! For the latest news and details, please visit the Alberta Hualien website: www.chineseaz.org.
