Dear friends from the media, members of the Phoenix Taiwan Association, friends:
In view of the recent outbreak in Taiwan of college students breaking into the Legislative Yuan, hanging the national flag upside down, and tearing down the Legislative Yuan plaque. Thousands of people occupied the Legislative Yuan and the chamber. A few students even asked Ma Ying-jeou to apologize, Jiang Yihua to step down, and the police to withdraw from Congress. Such a scandal at the highest public opinion organ has once again brought disgrace to Taiwan's democracy. The National Taiwan Association issued a solemn statement condemning the chaos at the meeting, supporting President Ma Ying-jeou and the Trade in Services Agreement. Thanks to former President Wang Fuquan and former President Huang Weiti for jointly assisting in writing the solemn statement of the Taiwanese Association of America on this incident. I would like to attach the solemn statement of this association. We kindly ask all Taiwanese Association members, media, and friends to jointly condemn "the DPP uses a minority to bully the majority, boycotts laws and censorship first, incites students to occupy the Legislative Yuan, and creates social unrest later." At the same time, this association supports the government's determination to safeguard the rule of law in society and promote a services trade agreement that is truly beneficial to Taiwan.

Solemn Statement of the Taiwanese Association of America
>The National Taiwanese Friendship Association has always been "caring about Taiwan at all times and serving fellow countrymen everywhere" as its purpose. For 36 years, it has united and identified with fellow Taiwanese. In addition to helping each other in the places where overseas Chinese live, it also firmly supports the government of the Republic of China. The Taiwan Association of America severely condemned the recent chaos in the Legislative Yuan and issued the following solemn statement:
The atrocities committed by students in the Legislative Yuan have caused us to worry about the prospects for the development of Taiwan's democratic politics. Even if the Services Trade Agreement is controversial, the democratic spirit and rational attitude still need to be observed. College students with higher education have different political and social demands, and they should express them rationally and not use violence to resist the democratically elected government, which is ridiculous. The chaos in the Legislative Yuan has once again made Taiwan appear on the international news stage and become the subject of discussion and attention by foreign media. From domestic or overseas perspectives, there may be different feelings or conclusions, but for Taiwan, it is by no means a positive development. After the incident broke out, media reports at home and abroad reported that the highest palace of democracy was occupied by students, and that the dignity of the Congress was gone. How do we think its behavior is different from a populist mob? During the debate on the Trade in Services Agreement, Taiwan’s democracy was exploited by populist consciousness. Countries around the world are competing for the market, but Taiwan is in the middle of controversy; countries around the world are competing for the economy, but Taiwan's government and opposition parties are competing for politics. Taiwan's economy is already in a sluggish state. If the trade in services agreement is not handled well, it will make matters worse. Not only will Taiwan's democracy suffer another heavy blow, we would like to ask when Taiwan, which is obsessed with internal political strife, will see the light of day.
The National Taiwan Association hopes that anti-service trade groups and students will be responsible for their actions. Therefore, we publicly make the following strict demands: Opposition parties and opposition parties use students to achieve political purposes, and their intentions are punishable. We call on the anti-service trade groups and students to make a public apology to the society for trampling on the dignity of Congress, harming law enforcement officers, and humiliating the head of state and ministers in an undemocratic and irrational manner, and to leave the Congress venue as soon as possible. Representatives of the troubled students have dialogue with the leader of the opposition party as soon as possible. At the same time, we also call on the leader of the opposition party to hold a debate on the Trade in Services Agreement with the leader of the ruling party as soon as possible so that the whole people can better understand the comprehensive content of the Trade in Services Agreement and not be afraid. We call on President Wang Jinping to exercise police power from the perspective of safeguarding the dignity of the Congress. The dignity of the Congress is not a matter of blue-green or ideological battles. It is a battle to defend democratic values. Congress must resume its deliberations as soon as possible, and the government and the opposition should join in the grand event. The Trade in Services Agreement is related to the country’s future economic and trade competitiveness, and is also an important step for my country to further move towards liberalization and internationalization. We support the cross-strait trade in services agreement and believe it is necessary for Taiwan's economic development. Taiwan's service industry must be internationalized, and we fully support the Trade in Services Agreement.
