Cross-Strait Agreement on Trade in Services

Professor Yao introduced the "Agreement on Trade in Services"

Professor Yao started the lecture, first discussing the Agreement on Trade in Services and continuing to talk about the seven-in-one election. Since the Qing Dynasty, the mainland's coastal cities of Tianjin, Qingdao, Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Guangzhou have all prospered due to trade. The modern national economy relies especially on the competitiveness of the free market. Trade agreements and tariff preferences are indispensable and critical conditions for competitiveness. Being closed to the outside world will lead to self-destruction. Professor Yao believes that the Cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) is one of the main reasons why Ma Ying-jeou can be re-elected. If the subsequent services trade agreement is successfully signed again, the DPP will have no hope of governing. How can the party not deliberately misinterpret and obstruct the conclusion of the agreement in every possible way. On the evening of March 18, anti-service trade students and people occupied the legislative chamber of the Legislative Yuan and demanded that the Executive Yuan take back the service trade agreement. The operation of Congress was completely paralyzed, public properties were severely damaged, and they planned to launch a nationwide strike and class strike, but without any constructive suggestions, they showed their arrogance, ignorance, and blind obedience. Politicians are waiting for opportunities to incite and instigate, and they do not hesitate to use anti-service trade as a political tool. They are so anxious that they shout "frozen garlic", completely ignoring the tangible and intangible heavy losses to the entire country and society. Gu Yin, a member of this branch, pointed out in an email that the Green Party used the trade in services incident to surround the KMT headquarters and occupy the Legislative Yuan in an attempt to trap President Ma in using police to suppress violence. They expanded the incident into a political persecution and white terror, lowering the KMT’s public support. They turned a simple economic issue into an ideological political incident, fulfilling the selfish desires of one party and sacrificing the interests of the entire people. Most of the speeches at the meeting recognized the government's humiliation and burden, and prayed that the danger could be turned into safety as soon as possible and the operation of democracy and the rule of law could be restored. However, some friends from Hong Kong and mainland China criticized President Ma for being soft and appeasing. Another Taiwanese immigrant spoke and expressed his admiration for the students' spirit. This is his personal opinion. But there was no one in the meeting who didn’t think that Mr. Wang from the Legislative Yuan should take responsibility and fulfill his duties.

Seven-in-one local public office election On November 29 this year, Taiwan will hold the first "seven-in-one" local public office merger election in history. As the name suggests, in addition to the president and legislators, the remaining seven local public officials are merged into elections, including the most eye-catching mayors and city councilors of the six cities. After Professor Yao introduced the pros and cons of the major county and city candidates and the ruling and opposition parties in the seven-in-one election, he emphasized that Taiwan does not have a revolutionary environment. The people pursue stability and prosperity and will not accept street movements and violent lines. Ma Ying-jeou uses softness to overcome strength and appeals for rational and emotional response measures. This is indeed considered and should be supported. Senior party member Zhan Haowen is concerned that the party's nomination and primary election mechanism can be implemented to prevent the party from splitting and both losing the election. Min Chung-ying questioned Taiwan's media for misleading society, hurling abuses all day long, and having no basic conscience and morality. Inspired by Taipei Mayor Hao's "responsible election" theory, Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of this branch, believes that election ethics and responsibilities should be upheld, and those who falsely call the "Ming Dynasty" should be explained and apologized. President Ma is being asked to take responsibility for losing the election without any reason. He should first reflect on himself and examine the responsibilities of all relevant personnel.

Overseas Chinese Affairs Consultants in Fengcheng frankly stated that the current overseas Chinese affairs work is implemented deviantly, resources are unevenly distributed, double standards are often used, and it is not fair and just. Of course, the overseas Chinese affairs policy cannot be implemented consistently and gain support. Looking at the current Taiwanese overseas community in Phoenix City, they are alienated from morality and gradually lose credibility. There are reasons for being honest and good, which cannot be explained in a few words. The Overseas Chinese Affairs Consultant further pointed out that overseas Chinese affairs work should include the promotion of national diplomacy and Chinese education. The Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee should help solve the difficulties in overseas Chinese affairs work. Senior party member You Zhenyuan announced a missing person notice. Local doctor Wang Nan is looking for Mr. Zhang Shuzhong who generously supported his family in Dallas, Texas in 1989. At that time, Dr. Wang was working as a part-time student at the local "Qingye" restaurant, and his wife was expecting a baby. Mr. Zhang twice provided help in times of need and provided free financial support. Later, he moved to California and did good deeds without asking for anything in return. He did not leave any communication information. We only knew that he was from Taiwan. At that time, he and his wife had two young children and he was a computer professional. Over the past twenty-five years, Dr. Wang has been engraved in my heart and cannot be forgotten. Now I am eager to find this former benefactor, and I sincerely ask for your help.
