(Contributed by New Oriental Art School) On the morning of Saturday, June 7, 2014, the Summer Speech Club hosted by the same principal held its first event at New Oriental Art School. Within two hours, nearly forty students participated in a speech with the theme of "Who Am I". The children were divided into three groups according to their age. After group competition and voting by all participants, a champion was selected from each group. The Toastmasters Club will have seven more events over the summer, with three winners each time. After the summer vacation, the three winners of this period will participate in the selection of the host of the Golden Autumn Dance Art Festival together with the weekly champion to be determined later. The first 2014 Golden Autumn Dance Art Festival will be held on September 14, 2014 at the Chandler Center For the Arts Theater. New Oriental Art School has selected an adult host for this show and will also select a student host. The children participating in this speech club range in age from four to fifteen years old. Four-year-old David Liu was the first to take the stage to speak. Qi Qi was very generous at a young age. As soon as he finished speaking a few words, he immediately received applause from the audience. Fifteen-year-old Tina Peng is the oldest child in this event. Her performance on the scene was calm and her speech was fluent, and she won the championship in the third group. In the third group, after three votes, Peng Tianyue and 13-year-old Tang Tianhe tied twice in votes. By the third vote, Peng Tianyue won by a narrow margin. The atmosphere at the speech was relaxed and cheerful. Although it was the first event, there was no silence. Some children are well prepared and have prepared speech notes at home; some children are not prepared, but they can also perform on the spot. The principal who gave the speech gave on-the-spot comments on each child's performance. Before the principal evaluates each child, he will ask the children to evaluate the speaker's performance themselves. Children also found their own shortcomings while criticizing others. Through the children's performance, the teachers and parents present realized that the children's speech skills are not yet very proficient, but they believe that after a period of training, they will perform better. The second activity of the Toastmasters Club will be held from 10:30 to 12:30 in the morning on June 14th. Parents are welcome to bring their children to continue to participate.
