(Overseas Chinese Federation News) On the evening of February 9, Consul General Liu Jian, Consul Yu Xiong, and Consul Ren Zhifang of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Los Angeles held a dinner at the New World Seafood Restaurant to entertain friends from the overseas Chinese community in Phoenix. Representatives from Huazong, Hualian, and the Phoenix Overseas Chinese Federation were present. Consul Yu Xiong gave a warm reminder before the banquet that it is not necessary to wear a tie to attend. Consul General Liu Jian was easy-going and talkative at the table. He said that he came to Arizona to meet with the new governor and discussed various aspects. He said that the governor attaches great importance to relations with China and that the two sides will benefit from each other in their investment. Consul General Liu also mentioned that in order to expand tourism, China can adopt direct charter flights. When talking about Sino-US relations, Consul General Liu said that President Xi Jinping and President Obama talked for eight hours in the United States in 2013, and for ten hours in Beijing, China last year. They talked about so many things in the world! Sino-US relations will be better than before. Talking about the economic development of the motherland, he said that China's foreign trade exceeded 500 billion last year. Despite various pressures, the economy still grew by 7.4%. China is making steady progress in accordance with the Centennial Economic Plan. Returning to the topic of overseas Chinese communities, Consul General Liu said that overseas Chinese communities should do a "down-to-earth" job and serve the grassroots wholeheartedly. He has been in contact with many overseas Chinese groups in Los Angeles, but he will not go to discordant groups. If there are conflicts between brothers, they are always a family. He would also like to convey his greetings to the overseas Chinese in Phoenix to everyone present! Consul General Liu suggested speaking freely. Mr. Yu Wenjin, a senior local overseas Chinese leader, warmly welcomed the Consul General’s visit and hoped to come often if he has time in the future. Huazhong Chairman Wu Ning, Director Xu Qiang, Hualian Chairman Wang Weizi, Overseas Chinese Federation Chairman Yu Wenze, consultant Deng Chaoju and others spoke. Cui Zengqi, vice chairman of the Overseas Chinese Federation, said that the Chinese Senior Citizens Association is currently applying for the "Overseas Chinese Benefit Project" and hopes that the Consulate General will provide assistance in this regard. Zhang Zhaohong, vice chairman of the Overseas Chinese Federation, mentioned that he had visited the earliest Chinese ancestors’ cemetery and tombstones in Phoenix City, and hoped to invite personnel from the Consulate General to attend the ceremony during the public memorial ceremony for the overseas Chinese community. In addition, the traditional overseas Chinese community elected Deng Chaoju to organize the commemorative activities for the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Japanese War. Chinese people, regardless of the mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas Chinese, will work together to organize the commemorative activities for the victory of the Anti-Japanese War.
