>Phoenix City Chinese School Spring Festival Garden Party will be held at 11am on February 22nd at the Mesa Community College campus. In addition to tables of delicious food prepared by parents, there were stalls displaying Chinese knots and other trinkets at the venue. This year’s meal selections include not only Taiwanese local dishes, such as taro cakes, meat soup, fried rice, pineapple cakes, fried shrimp cakes, tea eggs and tofu pudding, but also Western pastries, tiramisu and Korean kimchi. The dishes are rich and exciting. At noon, the string sound of Fengyang flower drums sounded in the venue, attracting the attention of the guests to the stage. Then the dance performance "What did the fox say" directed by teacher Wen Linglin immediately heated up the atmosphere. After the hot dance, auspicious lions surrounded the entire venue, bringing the joy of the New Year to every corner of the venue.

The host Mr. Zheng Hong then stepped forward to greet the audience, and then he introduced the convener of the board of directors, Mr. Xie Jianming and Principal Cheng Xiuling to give speeches. They thanked all the guests for coming and supporting the school, and extended New Year blessings. Guests attending this meeting included State Senator Andy Biggs and his wife, Ms. Pat Esparza, who is in charge of Chinese language schools at Mesa Community College, Ms. Zhang Qingling, Overseas Chinese Affairs Advisory Committee member of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission of the Republic of China, Ms. Shuai Zhiruo, former president of the National Association of Chinese Schools, Ms. Xu Kailai, Dr. Wang Wenxiu and his wife, and Ms. Zhang Shengyi, etc. In their speeches, the distinguished guests unanimously praised Phoenix Chinese School for its efforts in promoting Chinese education and inheriting Chinese culture. It is worth mentioning that this year, many former principals came back to participate in the garden party, including Ms. Chen Jingyi, Ms. He Jizhuang, as well as Mr. He Guoshan, Yue Jianzhen and Mr. Zeng Renzheng, which is really rare.
After the guests gave their speeches, there were performances by students from each class. Many of the teachers in the lower grade classes this year just joined the teaching ranks last fall. They led the children in singing children's songs, and the performance was full of energy and vitality. With singing, movements, and wearing animal or Indian headbands made by the teachers, the children's cute performances brought countless laughter to the audience. Teacher Li Yuqing from Basic Class 2A even came up with an ingenious way of greeting the New Year by pasting one-word Spring Festival couplets on each child's chest, forming a sentence of "Great Luck in the Year of the Sheep." Middle grade students sang a number of popular Taiwanese songs, such as "Friends" by Stephen Chow in fifth grade and "Happy Paradise" in fourth grade. The eldest in the 10th/11th grade, S.H.E.’s 杝superstar?#26102;, each wore sunglasses, and the three classmates played with electric guitar props on their backs. Their cool appearance made the audience cheer loudly.

Tai Chi master Mr. Yang Yongqing led his senior students to demonstrate the Tai Chi performance of both strength and softness for the audience. The Tai Chi Sword and Five-animal Opera performed by teacher Zhang Xinzhi and his students were even more breathtaking.
Many non-Chinese-speaking families have joined Phoenix Chinese School one after another, so the school has designed different teaching materials for these students to increase their love for it. During this garden party, we also saw the outstanding learning achievements of these non-Chinese students. For example, the class of third-grade teacher Yan Zhenglun told the story of "The Lion and the Fox". In addition to fluently telling fragments of the story, each student also drew pictures of the story and displayed it on a slide. In addition to singing "Let the Love Spread Out", the students of Class B of the sixth grade also used sign language movements to show different styles of performances!
The Spring Festival garden party ended successfully with the concluding remarks by Principal Cheng Xiuling. The Chinese school would like to express special thanks to Mesa Community College for its greatest support and cooperation, which enabled the Spring Festival Garden Party to be held smoothly. In addition, the teachers, staff who prepared the program and all the volunteer parents who silently helped also contributed indispensably.
