In order to enhance the image of Chinese schools in Alberta, enhance publicity efforts, and make better use of the latest network technology in the teaching process and improve daily management of schools, the new website of Chinese schools in Alberta was successfully upgraded and launched on February 15, 2015 after more than 5 months of development and debugging. Now I will share with you the main functions and development process of this website. 1. The website structure and display are more professional. The entire school's website system is developed using the current very mainstream education platform system, which focuses on displaying information such as courses, art galleries, teachers and students' gardens, and learning resources. The website front desk and management backend are deployed independently to ensure system data security; the website's page layout is more reasonable, the page style is beautiful, and the functions are simple and practical, as shown in Figure 1.
2. The website has comprehensive user functions to meet the school's medium and long-term teaching development needs. The user functions of the website mainly include the following main user function modules: (1) Parents and student users mainly include: online course selection, course registration and course change (including historical course registration information), payment management, online voting (independent voting on various school events), online registration for Parent Duty, online real-time communication with teachers, online homework management (submission of homework), personal score management, etc. (2) Teacher users mainly include: online teacher-student interaction, teaching class student information management, teaching course management, online homework management (online assignments, homework corrections and performance assessment), and student performance management, etc. (3) School management user functions include: course management (various functions such as course opening, class registration, etc.), teacher management (managing teachers’ teaching through teachers’ online assignments and interactions with students), release and management of various information (pictures, videos, etc.) at the front desk, charging management (real-time account balance, convenient and safe—how operations on family accounts are recorded by logs), and various detailed statistical reports based on user data, see Figure 2.
(4) Website management user functions: Since the website adopts a modular functional design, the school can adjust and set up the function menu and page display scheme of the website according to the needs of the school. At the same time, various operations are very convenient and do not require professionals to operate. (5) Advertising management function: By providing an online real-time interaction platform for teachers and students (including online homework functions), the Chinese school website has stable visiting users (these users are very attractive to some merchants), so that it can provide advertising publishing functions for some merchants on the website, thereby generating a certain amount of revenue for the school. 3. Innovative website development model. Since the funding for each Chinese school is very tight, the cost of developing such a professional website is very high and cannot be afforded by the school at the moment. The development of this website is mainly sponsored and developed free of charge by teacher Xu Zhanyang, a parent of the school's students (Xu Zhanyang is an ASU visiting scholar from a mainland university, and mainland China has a professional R&D team). After the website is officially put into use, only a small amount of maintenance fees need to be paid every month. At the same time, after the website is put into use, the revenue from the advertising publishing function of the website can cover the maintenance costs of the website, and even bring greater revenue generation to the school. Under this innovative model, the school achieved the goal of revamping and upgrading its website at zero cost. Since the new website was put into use, it has received unanimous praise from teachers and students. During the development of the website, Mr. Xu Zhanyang and his team worked tirelessly to change the content over and over again to make the website perfect and proactively designed many features for us that we had not thought of. The launch of the new website is just a new beginning for the online teaching of Hope Chinese School. Hope Chinese School will continue to work hard and work with the Nanjing Shuobo Information Technology Development Studio to use advanced computer network technology to provide better learning conditions and environment for the majority of students.
