(Newsletter of the Arizona Chinese Historical Association) On May 13, 2017, the Arizona Chinese Historical Association held its inaugural meeting at the Fengcheng Restaurant in Phoenix. Nearly forty people from various associations in the province, well-known academic professors, writers, artists and enthusiasts attended the inaugural meeting. The newly established Arizona Chinese Historical Association has senior overseas Chinese leaders Yu Wenjin and Guan Zongren as honorary presidents, and Deng Chaoju, Deng Hongyue, Cao Jinqi, David Yee, Albert Lin serves as the honorary advisor; Chen Huaiyu (ASU history professor), Wu Jiang (ASU professor), Dr. Yang Li (Tucson historian), Dr. Liu Qian (ASU University East Asian Library), He Leping (ASU library researcher) serve as academic advisors, as well as directors and members of the Arizona Chinese Historical Association. The first president is Zhang Zhaohong, Tang Xiaoxian is the vice president, and Yu Minxin is the secretary-general. The board members include: Xu Qiang, Ruan Aiming, Xie Chengyan and Chen Lijun. The founding meeting was presided over by Vice President Tang Xiaoxian. He warmly welcomed advanced and enthusiastic people from the overseas Chinese academic circles to attend the founding meeting, and thanked everyone for their strong support and encouragement. He pointed out that the Alberta Chinese Historical Association is a non-profit organization composed of Chinese in the state. In the future, it will contact professional historians and amateur history enthusiasts to jointly collect, research, and organize the history of Chinese in the United States. It will be based in the state and unite relevant Chinese groups and institutions across the United States to make due contributions to the Chinese and mainstream society. In his speech, President Zhang Zhaohong clarified the purpose of the establishment of the association: The association will study the historical situation of Chinese in the United States over the past two hundred years, focus on exploring the history and culture of the Chinese in the state, commemorate the contributions made by the Chinese ancestors to American society, be vigilant and curb the remaining racial discrimination in society, and praise outstanding talents among Chinese from all walks of life. Secretary-General Yu Minxin made a positive speech at the meeting, and directors Xu Qiang and Ruan Aiming also delivered enthusiastic speeches, hoping that more Chinese would be determined to study and learn Chinese history and join the association. Xue Haipei, chairman of the United Chinese American (UCA), sent a congratulatory letter to the conference. Senior overseas Chinese leader Mr. Yu Wenjin warmly congratulates the establishment of the Arizona Chinese Historical Association! Representatives from all walks of life who participated in the meeting delivered speeches. Chandler City Councilor Huang Xinmin called on the Chinese to actively participate in politics and strive for more seats in the city government, learn from history, and work hard to fight for the rights and interests of the Chinese; Yu Wenze, former chairman of the Overseas Chinese Federation, hopes that the association will contribute to the overseas Chinese community in the new historical period; Li Jian, president of the Overseas Chinese Federation, hopes that the association will actively interact with other historical circles and Chinese overseas Chinese communities in the state on cooperation in historical and cultural projects. Honorary consultant Lin Zixuan emphasized the importance of Chinese among the Asian ethnic groups. Chinese Americans should continue to maintain friendly cooperation with other Asian ethnic groups to enhance the cohesion of Asians in the state. Dr. Yang Li, a Chinese historian from Tucson, hopes that the association will not only commemorate and reflect on the unfair treatment of the Chinese, face up to the historical contributions of the Chinese, but also actively carry out academic research and academic exchange activities. Zhang Wenwu spoke on behalf of Professor Sun Fei of the State University, hoping that the association would actively carry out academic research with the state's universities; cultural relic collection enthusiast Han Yu showed five precious photos reflecting the life of the Chinese in the mid-to-late 19th century. Well-known painter Gao Yingxia spoke on behalf of the Yunnan Association, hoping to promote historical and cultural exchange activities between the association and the association. Engineer Cheng Ming used the examples of Chinese political participation in American history to inspire a new generation of young Chinese to take responsibility and participate in politics. Also attending the founding meeting were Yu Zizhong, chairman of Yu Fengcai Hall, Yin Fengying, chairman of the Senior Citizens Association, representative Weng Jiangting, former Hualien president Tao Shicheng, Zhao Caihong, a representative of the Chinese Federation of Alberta, professor Ally from a state university, Yu Wenzhuo and Wen Linglin, representatives of the Phoenix Overseas Chinese Federation, Chen Caiping, former chairman of the Taiwan Association, WeChat group owners Deng Ling and Huang Zhenjie, writers Wang Jingyu, Qian Xiaowu and his wife Yang Ping, historical relic collectors Han Yu, Lin Quan, Xu Wei , Wang Xiaoli, Liang Yueyuan, sponsor of the Alberta Chinese History Fund, etc. Everyone hopes that the association will reorganize Chinese history, face the future, inherit and carry forward the fine traditions of the Chinese nation, play the role of bridge and link, and continue to write new chapters in the history of the struggle of Chinese and overseas Chinese!
