Items to be discussed at the June base symposium. The Vietnam-Chinese Association attaches great importance to the scholarship issue. Due to the busy personal affairs of the president and directors, the Vietnam-Chinese Association has temporarily suspended its monthly meetings in April and May. By the end of June, it was decided to continue holding the moon base symposium on the morning of Thursday, June 29, 2017, at the Lee's Sandwiches in Chandler City. However, several directors were out of town or working, and the number of attendees was still not large. Fortunately, two capable directors who were unwell, Zhou Guiqing and Fu Caiyun, were able to participate, which made everyone excited. In addition to the two mentioned above, the others present were: Honorary President Lin Weixiong, President Huang Hai, Vice President Zhou Yongxin, Chinese Secretary Huang Guoxi, Executive Director Wang Churong, and Member Chen Caishun. After two hours of deliberation, the symposium adjourned at nearly 12 o'clock and discussed several issues. The results are as follows: 1. Pay attention to the issue of scholarships. Originally passed at the regular meeting in March, it was issued at the spring banquet following the example of other societies, making it appear open and solemn. However, the application deadline was published online and the deadline was still May 31 despite the modifications. Some members thought they had missed the application period and were afraid to continue the application. We hereby solemnly announce that the correct deadline is November 30. Children of all Yuehua members who have sufficient conditions can continue to apply as usual. 2. To celebrate the sixth anniversary of the Spanish-American Overseas Chinese Newspaper, Fang Huixian invited our association to participate in a fundraising dinner. After discussion, we decided to subscribe for one seat through our association and sponsor NT$500. The rest can be helped as much as you like, please feel free to do as you please. 3. In view of the active activities of the Vietnam Community, which has already arranged a year's worth of programs, our association is clearly far behind. After reviewing the situation, I found that the Vietnamese are relatively concentrated and have relatively strong groups, making it easy to unite as one; while we, the Chinese, have many organizations and are scattered in strength. The Vietnamese-Chinese Association of Alberta does not have enough cohesion. We hope that the Vietnamese and overseas Chinese can put aside their prejudices, cooperate sincerely, and run the conference well. We also encourage the younger generation to participate, add new blood, and increase vitality. 4. When it comes to the Spring Banquet, there are too many clubs taking turns to hold it every year. The late Uncle Jia once wrote an article lamenting "The Pain of the Spring Banquet". Lin Weixiong suggested that the situation could be reversed and that the association should organize the event earlier than the Christmas period. Zhou Yongxin suggested that the "end-of-year party" could be organized following the example of Vietnam, which can be used as a reference. This issue will be discussed later. 5. The National Day of the United States is approaching, and the Overseas Chinese Federation has organized a party. Members of the Vietnam-Chinese Association actively support it and have purchased many raffle tickets. Talking about the Overseas Chinese Federation consisting of more than ten groups, Zhou Yongxin proposed whether our association should join the lineup. Everyone was interested and asked President Huang Hai to try to contact and explore the conditions. 6. President Huang Hai also provided that some overseas Chinese friends think it would be better to set up a "Vietnam-Chinese Friends" so that non-Vietnam-Chinese people can participate in our activities to build momentum and have fun with others. Everyone agrees on the principle, but the details need to be discussed.
