Phoenix City Council approves 30 bus routes to be reinstated (Alberta Times) Phoenix City Council approved bus changes last week to bring back nearly 30 bus routes, with modifications aimed at saving more than $4.3 million. The city-wide changes will affect local bus and express commuter services. According to Phoenix transit officials, the changes include: Routes 1, 3, 7, 8, 10, 13, 17, 17A, 19, 27, 29, 35, 41, 43, 50, 51, 52, 59, 60, 67, 70, 90 and 154. These small routes often involve short loops in the community, but the cycle time is longer. Such loops will be eliminated. Extend Routes 8 and 67 south, Route 8 to Euclid Avenue and Route 67 to Lower Buckeye Road south. Routes 16 and 80 were revised to reduce traffic to the Sunnyslope Transportation Center. Will remain on Route 16 at 16th Street and join the Northern Arizona Highway 51. Route 80, North, will be extended to 16th Street. Eliminate express service on I-17 tracks due to low ridership. All express routes had their Friday timetables changed last Friday due to lower usage. In addition, a new express service in the southern mountains is on a 180-day trial. It will run from 27th Avenue and Baseline Rd into downtown Phoenix. All changes take effect July 23.
