In the early hours of Sunday, a fire caused by the use of "other means of heating" burned a house at the intersection of 14th Street and Pima Street to ashes, and three people died in the incident.
When firefighters arrived at the scene of the fire at 3:20 a.m. Sunday, the house was completely engulfed in flames. Capt. McDonald, a spokesman for the Phoenix Fire Department, said the vacant house had been without water and power for months and he speculated that someone was huddled in the house.
A woman managed to escape the fire with only minor burns and smoke inhalation.
McDonald said they have been looking at areas near the valley where people living in homes are essentially living without water or electricity. He didn't know if these people's houses had been mortgaged and they resorted to other means to keep warm, resulting in frequent fires.
It's 14th Street again, just a coincidence, right?
