China News Service, March 19. According to a comprehensive report by the Chinese website of the United States, Jin Dong (transliteration), a Chinese young man in New York, had previously paid a bonus of US$290,000 to his fiancée Yu Qing Weng (transliteration) and her family. However, before the wedding could be held, Yu Qing Weng became a "runaway bride." Dong Jin felt that he had been cheated, so he took his fiancée and her family to court, demanding compensation for losses.

According to the "Daily Mail" report, Dong Jin submitted an indictment to Manhattan Supreme Court a week ago. The indictment states that "as a commitment to legal marriage and as a custom in his hometown," the man surnamed Dong paid Ms. Weng a six-figure gift. In order to collect the gift money, he borrowed money from many relatives and friends at home.

According to the New York Post, Dong Jin and his fiancée had a banquet earlier in 2017, and the two decided to formally obtain the certificate later.

But in August 2017, Weng Yuqing "disappeared" from their residence. According to the indictment, Weng Yuqing took all the wedding gifts and jewelry when he left.

It is reported that Dong Jin also gave Weng Yuqing’s mother a gift of US$5,300 and a betrothal gift of US$6,300 to her parents. The bride-to-be's brother and grandmother also received US$2,000 each from Mr. Dong.

Dong Jin later took back $1,500 from Weng Yuqing’s mother. When he asked the woman's family to return all the bride price they received from him, he was refused. Dong Jin then took the Weng family to court and demanded the return of US$287,000.
