American Airlines predicts that 25 million people will fly during the Thanksgiving holiday. According to statistics from the American Airlines Industry Group, there were 24.7 million Thanksgiving air passengers in 2012. According to airline ticketing statistics, 2.1 million passengers will fly every day during the 12-day Thanksgiving holiday.

The highest peak day will be Sunday, December 1st, while there will be two smaller peaks on November 27th and December 2nd. On November 28th and November 29th, there were relatively few people traveling. According to airline forecasts, the flight occupancy rate during Thanksgiving will exceed 85%

John Heimlich, chief economist of the aviation group, said that the reason why the number of travelers has increased this year is, first, because air tickets are relatively cheaper than when inflation was in 2000; second, because the economic downturn has eased and stimulated the recovery of the tourism economy. The day before the Aviation Industry Group released this report, the U.S. Department of Transportation also released a report claiming that ticket prices fell by $378 in the second quarter of this year. Of course, this price does not include other fees, such as checked baggage fees.

Huntsville, Alabama, has the highest average fare at $547, while the lowest average fare at $159 is in Atlantic City, New Jersey, according to figures from the Department of Transportation's Bureau of Statistics.

Despite the drop in fares, John?#28023; Mlich said that according to the financial statements of the 10 largest U.S. airlines, combined profits so far this year have reached $450 million, surpassing 2012. Investment by airlines has also doubled since 2010, with an average monthly investment of US$965 million this year to purchase new aircraft, purchase wireless Internet systems and improve website services.

He said: "When airlines achieve profitability, passengers, employees and the entire aviation industry can achieve a win-win situation, because airlines have money to improve services and passenger experience."
