> Fire in car windows Toyota recalls 2.47 million vehicles Toyota announced on the 10th that it would recall more than 7.43 million vehicles in 12 models worldwide to repair defects in the power window switch next to the driver's seat. The federal National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that nearly 2.5 million vehicles will be recalled in the United States. The problem has reported more than 200 incidents of smoke and fire in the United States, resulting in at least nine injuries. Toyota's recalled models are sold in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North America, and their production years cover 2005 to 2010. The U.S. will recall 2.47 million vehicles, including the 2007 to 2009 Camry and Camry Hybrid gasoline-electric vehicles, the 2009 Corolla, the 2007 to 2008 Yaris, and the 20090 Matrix. Utility vehicles include the 2007 to 2009 RAV4, 2008 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid, 2007 to 2009 Tundra, and 2008 to 2009 Sequoia. Also included are the 2008-2009 Scion xB and xD. Toyota stated that when these power window switches were manufactured, the lubricating grease was not evenly applied, causing friction within the switch. Owners would feel stuck when using the switch, and sometimes the switch would melt, smoke, and catch fire. However, this defect has not yet caused a car accident. Toyota will start mailing recall notices to car owners at the end of October. It will take about an hour to return to the factory for maintenance. Toyota plans to disassemble the electric window switch next to the driver's seat, check the internal condition, and apply a layer of special lubricating grease.
