The 2022 Alberta Spring Festival Gala—Chinese New Year Show for…

Local families

The 2022 Alberta Spring Festival Gala—Chinese New Year Show for Our Heroes, co-sponsored by the Alberta College of the Arts and the City of Chandler, was held on the evening of February 5th at the auditorium of Hamilton High School in Chandler. This is not only a traditional cultural and artistic event to celebrate the Lunar New Year, but also a gratitude and feedback event for frontline anti-epidemic personnel such as police, firefighters, and medical staff.

That night, the theater was packed with seats, including many people who drove an hour from Phoenix to experience oriental art. The entire evening show was a combination of Eastern and Western art, and the performance was of a very high standard. The audience applauded continuously and received rave reviews. The program of the party includes classical dance, folk dance, modern dance, Kpop, opera, Peking opera, solo singing, children's chorus, Shaolin Kung Fu, etc. Among them, the Chinese song "Hear Me Say Thank You" performed by students from the Chinese immersion program at Talwater Elementary School illuminated the theme of the party, which moved the audience extremely and made the front-line anti-epidemic personnel feel proud.

This party was carefully created by all the staff and volunteers of the Art Institute of Alberta, adhering to the original intention of connecting and serving the community and making a modest contribution to the anti-epidemic cause. The well-known director Liu Luohong kept improving and pursuing excellence in program selection, process connection, venue layout, etc., and finally presented everyone with a festive, warm and wonderful cultural feast. The party not only relieved the homesickness of local Chinese, but also introduced traditional Chinese culture to American friends and promoted exchanges and cooperation among various ethnic groups.

The Chinese Spring Festival Gala has long become a unique cultural carrier and emotional sustenance for overseas Chinese around the world to express their love for each other and miss each other from afar. The "Alberta Spring Festival Gala" has been held for more than ten times and has long become a beautiful scenery in the greater Phoenix area to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Regarding hosting this gala, Ms. Lu Lihua, the general planner of the gala, said that the brand "Alberta Spring Festival Gala" has a certain history, but we are still facing unprecedented difficulties in hosting this gala this year. Due to concerns about the epidemic, the cast list has been revised several times, and it is difficult to guarantee audience attendance. However, with "respect and gratitude for the front-line anti-epidemic personnel", we believe that we should face the difficulties and show our determination not to be afraid of difficulties and our good expectations for the new year in the Year of the Tiger.

Fortunately, this party received strong support from the Chandler City Government and Phoenix media. ABC15 News has previewed this event multiple times, introducing the content of the party and the preparation process of the main creative staff for more than two months. Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke said in his speech at the party and in the interview after the meeting that this was an extremely wonderful performance and a very successful cooperation. The high level of this party has strengthened the Chandler City Government’s confidence in long-term cooperation with the Art School of Alberta.

Hosting the Spring Festival Gala successfully is very important for spreading Chinese culture, uniting the Chinese community, and building a cultural bridge between China and the United States. Thanks to the organizing committee members for their hard organizational work and all the cast and crew for their hard rehearsals, to the co-organizers and sponsors of the party, and to the volunteers for their hard work. I wish everyone good luck in the Year of the Tiger! Tigers and tigers are powerful! (Contributed by the Alberta College of Art)
