Reported by Wu Jin of the Modern Chinese School of Alberta On April 19th, a teacher of the Modern Chinese School of Alberta, The long-awaited annual picnic party held by parents and classmates was held at Desert Breeze Park. The weather was perfect today, with moderate temperatures, blue skies with white clouds, mild sunshine, and a gentle breeze. Desert Breeze is an ideal place for picnics. The park occupies a large area with lush trees and grass. There is a large lake in the park. Ducks swim happily on the sparkling lake. The Chinese school has rented out four large pavilions in the park facing the lake for picnics.

At a quarter past twelve, the American Express volunteer team came to the park and started preparing water polo balls for the children. The method of water polo is to press water into balloons. It seems very simple, but the amount of water and the method of pressing water are very skillful. At the beginning, many balloons burst and every volunteer was splashed with water. The volunteers continued to try, and finally mastered the skills and made hundreds of colorful water balloons.

On the grass next to the pavilion, the school has set up a trampoline and slide for the children. The children had a lot of fun jumping up and down on the trampoline or sliding down and up the slide. Thanks to the volunteers and parents who watched and maintained order, no accidents occurred during the entire event, although the children kept having fun.

At around 12:30, parents and students arrived at the picnic spot one after another. At the same time, the school committee, board of directors and volunteers are also busy moving and setting up lunches. The school prepared 500 sandwiches, 1,000 bottles of water and lots of snacks for the partygoers. Volunteers from the Student Union also set up a popcorn machine. At 12:50, Principal Zhu Yan announced the start of the picnic, and everyone immediately lined up to receive the meal in an orderly manner. The school committee, board members and volunteers distributed sandwiches, water and potato chips one by one. The student union volunteers also operated the machine to pop popcorn, charging only fifty cents per cup, and the profits became funds for the student union's activities. After receiving the food, parents and students sat down in the pavilion to eat and chat happily with friends around them. The school sold 400 picnic tickets in advance, and nearly 500 people came to the picnic party that day.

After lunch, Larry Song and Jianjun Sun from the board of directors led everyone in a tug-of-war game. The competition was attended by enthusiastic children as well as adults who were still childlike at heart. During the game, the contestants worked hard and went all out to score points for their team, and the spectators also became cheerleaders, cheering for their favorite team. In the end, the Intel team defeated the American Express team 2-1, and the school committee team defeated the board team 2-1. The most interesting thing was that the teachers team composed of mothers defeated the parent team composed of fathers 2-0. The student teams also had a cordial and friendly competition, each with its own victory or defeat. The second entertainment activity was to play water polo. Every child received a water polo. Some children threw water polo to each other and had fun, while others held it carefully, like a piece of art, not willing to break it. Another popular activity is face painting. Christine Chen is recognized as a master of painting. She and Li Xue paint various patterns for children and adults who love beauty, such as butterflies, bees, turtles, bugs, flowers, grass, etc. The most popular one is the butterfly. Many people wear butterflies on their faces and hands and show them to everyone happily. This afternoon, the whole park echoed with the laughter of adults and children at the Chinese school picnic party.

At around three or four o'clock in the afternoon, everyone said goodbye reluctantly, preparing to go home, and looking forward to next year's picnic. Thanks to everyone who came to the party!

The successful holding of this picnic would not have been possible without the careful planning of the Chinese school committee and board members and the active participation of many volunteers. Special thanks to them for their hard work and dedication.
