China Enterprises Confederation and China Entrepreneurs Association released the 2013 China Top 500 Enterprises list in Kunming on August 31. Sinopec has led the list for nine consecutive years with an operating income of 2,830.6 billion yuan in 2012. PetroChina, State Grid, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China Construction Bank, Agricultural Bank of China, Bank of China, China Mobile, China Construction, and CNOOC ranked second to tenth respectively. Compared with the previous year, the list of the top ten companies on the list has not changed. Sinopec, PetroChina, State Grid, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, and China Construction Bank still rank in the top five. Agricultural Bank of China and Bank of China have both moved up one place in the rankings. China Mobile has dropped from sixth to eighth. Among these 500 companies, 42 companies changed the list, an increase of 4 companies from the previous year, indicating that the pattern of China's large companies continues to show strong stability. In terms of entry threshold, the entry threshold for the top 500 Chinese enterprises in 2013 reached 19.867 billion yuan, an increase of 13.48% over the previous year. The number of companies with operating income exceeding 100 billion yuan reached 123, an increase of 16 over the previous year; among them, 16 were private enterprises, an increase of one over the previous year. The total operating income of these 123 companies is 34.97 trillion yuan, accounting for 69.9% of the operating income of all the top 500 companies. Although the overall scale of China's top 500 enterprises continues to grow, with total operating income exceeding 50 trillion yuan for the first time last year, reaching 50.02 trillion yuan, the growth rate has slowed down significantly, only 11.41%, a sharp drop of 12.22 percentage points from the previous year. From the perspective of operating efficiency, the total profit attributable to the parent company of these 500 companies was 2.17 trillion, an increase of only 3.58% over the previous year; the average revenue profit rate was 4.34%, a decrease of 0.33 percentage points from the previous year; the average asset profit rate was 1.44%, a decrease of 0.14 percentage points from the previous year. The average revenue profit rate and average asset profit rate have declined for two consecutive years. In terms of taxation, the total tax paid by China's top 500 enterprises in 2013 reached 3.65 trillion yuan, an increase of 10.92% from the previous year, accounting for 36.28% of China's total tax revenue in 2012, but a decrease from 37.24% of the previous year. Looking at individual companies, there are 69 companies with tax payments exceeding 10 billion yuan, 9 more than the previous year. It is worth noting that among these 500 companies, 216 companies experienced negative growth in net profits; 43 companies suffered losses, an increase of 30 companies from the previous year, and 7 companies suffered further losses. 430 of these 500 companies have reported R&D data, investing a total of 542.495 billion yuan in R&D funds, an increase of 11.37% from the previous year. However, the growth rate has dropped significantly from the previous year, and the growth rate is slightly lower than the growth rate of operating income; the average R&D intensity of these 430 companies is 1.27%, which has been declining for two consecutive years.
