(Contributed by Hope Chinese School) On May 5, 2013, Hope Chinese School held a grand graduation award ceremony at Tumbleweed Park Recreation Center. The ceremony was packed with all the teachers, students and parents of the school gathered together, and the warm atmosphere overshadowed the scorching heat of Phoenix. For this ceremony, the school is honored to invite Professor Pan Shou'an, President of Mesa Community College, Patricia Esparza, Head of Community Partnership of Mesa Community College and Ms. Shuai Zhiruo, President of the National Association of Chinese Schools. The school would like to express special thanks to Mesa Community College for its long-term support and cooperation with Hope Chinese School. The school expresses its heartfelt thanks to the retiring principal Ms. Zhao Caihong and the school chairman Ms. Huang Shuangshuang who have been re-elected for three years. Thank them for their efforts and contributions to school teaching and various affairs in the past three years. It is their unremitting efforts that enable the school to carry out various teaching activities smoothly and orderly. After summarizing their respective work in their speeches, they also expressed unlimited expectations and encouragement for the new principal and chairman. The new president and chairman of the board of directors elected by everyone are Ms. Xie Xiaohong and Mr. He Shijiang. They will take over the baton of Chinese cultural education and continue to serve the teachers, students and parents of the whole school. Principal Xie Xiaohong has been involved in school affairs for many years and served as the teaching principal last year. Chairman He Shijiang has also served the school voluntarily for many years and participated in the work of the school committee. I believe that under the leadership of them and the new board of directors and school committee members, Hope Chinese School will develop even more. This year's Chinese language and talent performances are not just simple recitations, singing and dancing, the students paid more attention to adding elements of Chinese culture to these performances. For example, the Chinese dance drama performance class led by Teacher Tang Ke brought "Rap Face Makeup", which popularized the knowledge of facial makeup in Peking Opera, the quintessence of Chinese culture; the "Prairie Mother" choreographed by Teacher He Chunling allowed everyone to appreciate the style of the grassland of the motherland; the martial arts class led by Teacher Huang Lirong performed "Five Steps Fist", which made the audience excited and wanted to go on stage to compete together. In order to celebrate the upcoming Mother's Day, everyone also integrated their love and gratitude for their mothers into the performance. The children's song "Mom, Don't Say I'm Young" taught by teacher Wu Shengjia, and the dance "Mother's Love" choreographed by teacher Jiang Lin both expressed the tender children's feelings for their mothers, making all the mothers present moved. Of course, the Chinese performances of other classes were also excellent, such as "Chinese Questions and Answers" taught by teacher Shao Ying, the sketch "Little Monkey Descends the Mountain" arranged by teacher Yang Jingsheng, and the children's songs "Falling Leaves" and "Little Spider" taught by teacher Zhu Xuewei, all showing the children's learning achievements. In addition to the children's performances, adults were not to be outdone. The adult choir led by teacher Cai Shangao performed beautiful songs "Song of Gulangyu Island" and "Ocean, My Hometown". Children in the intermediate guitar class also accompanied the choir. The adult dance class presented the beautiful dance "Dai Girl at the Waterside". The teacher He Chunling and the chairman Huang Shuangshuang also performed in person, which won a lot of applause! In Hope's campus, not only the children are learning and growing, but our parents are also learning together, growing together, and improving their lives. During the wonderful performances, the school also awarded various awards to outstanding students. During this year, Hope students have made significant achievements in learning Chinese and Chinese culture. In the National Youth Chinese Culture Competition, Chen Feiyu, Chen Yesheng, Zhu Enda, Li Longfei, and Xie Zhizhi from Hope Chinese School stood out and achieved excellent results. The school also commended students with outstanding performance in Community Service: Chen Zhuoting, Gao Anni, Gao Rubi, Weixi Li, and Michael Wu. In the school's literacy competitions, writing competitions, and chess competitions, many outstanding students emerged from each class. The school awarded trophies and medals to these winning students one by one. The glittering trophies and medals reflected the children's smiling faces, which were particularly bright. The school also expresses its deep gratitude to this year’s outstanding teachers Yang Jingsheng, Cai Shangao, He Chunling, Julian Wu, and every other teacher, volunteer, parent, and student for their hard work and support for various school activities. Let us work together to welcome a new school year full of hope and challenges. The fall semester of 2013 starts on 8/17. Specific courses and registration are being prepared and will be notified in time.
