2012 Ranking of the Best High Schools in the United States Newsweek lists the best high schools in the United States every year. This year, Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Bowling Green, Kentucky, won the championship. Two high schools in the state made the list. The state's Tucson Basic School, which has been ranked second and third on the list over the years, slipped to fifth place. Scottsdale's Basic School made the list for the first time and took fifth place in one fell swoop. The scoring criteria for the rankings consist of six components: graduation rate (25%), college enrollment rate (25%), proportion of students taking AP/IB/AICE exams (25%), average SAT/ACT test score (10%), AP/IB/AICE test scores (10%), and the number of AP courses for students to choose from (5%). This evaluation is not just a ranking of a school's absolute academic level, but also includes the educational opportunities the school provides students. AP is the abbreviation of Advanced Placement?#39640;level course?#30340;that is, high school students can take college courses while still in high school. This is an opportunity for a small number of outstanding students to take college courses in advance. Many subjects have AP exams. After passing the exam, you can be exempted from taking the corresponding courses when entering college. IB is the abbreviation of International Baccalaureate. AICE is the abbreviation of Advanced International Certificate of Education?#39640; Level International Education Certificate?#30340;, which was first cited by the University of Cambridge in 1994. IB and AICE are international school examinations offered to elite students from all over the world. They are of very high level and enjoy similar treatment to AP. As the competition to enter the Ivy League universities in the United States is becoming increasingly fierce, the test scores of AP, IB or AICE are particularly important.
