In order to celebrate Taiwan’s Centenary Double Ten event and promote the friendship between overseas Chinese in Arizona, the Arizona Overseas Chinese Committee specially organized the “2011 Kai Mai La” Karaoke Competition. On the afternoon of August 27, the Karaoke Competition was held at August Love Song KTV. There were 11 contestants in total, and many fans watched the competition. In addition to those from Taiwan, the contestants also come from Shanghai, Xi'an and other places in mainland China.

Contestants are singing. During the competition, the song chosen by the contestants is Let a Hundred Flowers Bloom, which is available in English, Chinese, Cantonese, and Taiwanese. Li Ruiying, a contestant from Xi'an, was a freshman at ASU. Because she came here for the first time and wanted to make more friends, she walked for more than 40 minutes to arrive at the competition site and gave everyone a wonderful performance. After preliminary rounds, she became one of the five finalists. The organizers originally planned to select two finalists to participate in the Taiwan Centennial Double Ten Celebration Party on September 28. However, the scores of the finalists were very close, and two players actually scored exactly the same. After repeated deliberation by the judges, it was finally decided that the top three students were Leona Huang, Li Ruiying and Liu Xieshu, and they will enter the finals together. All contestants received delicious meal coupons sponsored by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce Qiu Shunxiong and his wife. There are many prizes in the finals. The champion will receive a scholarship of $300, the runner-up will receive a scholarship of $200, and the third runner-up will receive a scholarship of $100. Who will win these grand prizes? Stay tuned for the Double Ten celebration party held at Arcadia High School at 6:00 pm on September 28th.
