> The 2011 ranking of the top 50 listed energy companies in the world. Chinese companies account for three places. All large energy companies are "as rich as the country"...
Yesterday, the famous PFC Energy Company announced the ranking of the top 50 listed energy companies in 2011. ExxonMobil, an American oil and gas producer, retained the title with a market value of US$406.3 billion, followed closely by PetroChina and Royal Dutch Shell.
In PFC's list, PetroChina claimed the top spot twice, in 2007 and 2009. In other years, the top spot was all occupied by Exxon Mobil.
In the 2011 top 50 list, a total of three companies from mainland China were shortlisted. In addition to the second-ranked PetroChina, there are also the ninth-ranked Sinopec and the 15th-ranked China National Offshore Oil Corporation.
According to PFC statistics, the total market value of the world's 50 largest energy companies in 2011 was as high as US$3.6 trillion, comparable to the entire Nasdaq stock market.
However, although the current oil price is much higher than four years ago, the total market value of the 50 largest energy companies has not yet exceeded the peak value of US$5.2 trillion reached in 2007.
In this regard, the CEO of PFC Energy pointed out that there are many reasons for the low total market value, including the decline in natural gas prices in North America and the low activity of the global stock market.
