On October 5, Boeing Company solemnly recognized Chinese engineer Li Jian as the winner of the 2011 Special Invention Award. Li Jian is an expert in composite material structures at Boeing Company. The Special Invention Award is Boeing Company’s highest invention award. It is specially awarded to individuals or teams in the company each year who have created the most valuable intellectual wealth for the company or aerospace technology. In 2011, a total of 20 people in the company received this honor, and most of their inventions were patented.
Li Jian, 49, is a member of the team that invented the "Disbond Resistant Composite Joint and Method of Forming". In 2011, he was selected from thousands of nominees for the Boeing Special Invention Award.

Li Jian said the inspiration for the invention came from the process of solving structural defects during a research project. This invention has been proven in a new product of Boeing. I am very happy to receive this award!
>Li Jian joined Boeing in 1997. He graduated from Xi'an Highway College (now Chang'an University) with a bachelor's degree in engineering mechanics in 1982, a master's degree in 1988, and a doctorate from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1992.
