The awards ceremony was held at this year's West Coast Annual Conference of the American Culinary Federation. The other five candidates are deans, department chairs or professors at schools of catering, hotel management or service management at various universities in the United States. All have a doctorate degree or a master's degree in culinary arts. Professor Si is the only Asian and professor from Taiwan to receive this prestigious honor. It is an honor for Taiwan and an honor for Asians in this professional field in the United States. Professor Si also received the 2011 Achievement Award from the Culinary Institute of America in recognition of his contribution to the professional education of young American students and his achievements in promoting international culinary cultural exchanges. The American Culinary Institute has only 800 academicians who live all over the United States. It is the highest honorary institution in the culinary arts profession.
