From a small home to everyone - A fundraising dinner for Yu Yanfen, a state senator candidate in the 20th District of Alberta (Alberta Times report) At 6 pm on September 15, at Luk Fook Restaurant in Phoenix, more than 150 friends were welcomed to support Arizona’s first Chinese-American female congresswoman Yu Yanfen’s candidacy for the Senate in the 20th District of Alberta. Yu Yanfen and her husband, brothers and sisters, Yu family members, old and new Chinese immigrants, ABC, and many Hispanic friends spent an unforgettable night like having a reunion dinner. There was no singing and dancing, but there were flowers, applause, and touching true stories. The most attractive elements of this fundraising dinner are all in the air, making you proud of Yu Yanfen, proud of the Chinese, proud of the immigrants, and proud of an ordinary citizen. Yu Yanfen, a Chinese American, replaced the retired 10th District Representative in 2010 and became Arizona's first Chinese American Representative. She is one of the state's "48 Most Attractive Women." She took to the podium to introduce her political experience: she once served California Governor Schwarzenegger and Arizona Governor Jane Brewer, was the head of the government public relations department of the state treasurer, and also worked in various aspects such as community education for 16 years. However, compared with these political achievements, there are many things more special about Chinese-American congresswoman Yu Yanfen. Yu Yanfen has a very simple small family. At the dinner, Yu Yanfen thanked her husband for changing for her. My husband likes a free and undisciplined life, so he chose to be a dentist. Finally, he can no longer work in suits and ties from nine to five. But I didn't expect that now it was not for work, but for my wife, that I had to wear suits and leather shoes almost every day from nine to nine, sometimes working as Yu Yanfen's professional photographer, sometimes as a communications engineer, and sometimes as a logistics service worker. The couple is busy and happy serving the community. Senatorial candidate for District 20 of Alberta, Yu Yanfen. Yu Yanfen’s father took to the podium. He was proud of his daughter. He told how his parents (Yu Yanfen’s grandparents) immigrated to the United States from China and started by opening a small laundry. They work hard and insist on creating good educational conditions for their children. Let them work hard to learn to take care of themselves and then help others. They know where money should be spent in times of financial difficulty, where they should say yes and where they should say no. Parents pass on thrift, simplicity, kindness and wisdom from generation to generation. By Yu Yanfen's generation, their family was wealthy and happy. However, the country has encountered a crisis, and the government funds are not so rich. Many citizens have lost their houses and jobs due to the economic depression. Under such circumstances, serving the government does not seem to be a wise choice. But as an immigrant family, we have gone through this. Now is the time for the children, who have no worries about food and clothing, to serve the government, families, and citizens who are encountering difficulties. Yu Yanfen’s father brought the whole family’s support to the scene. Yu Wenjin, the honorary president of the World Yu Clan Association, came to the podium. He said that in the diversified American society, Chinese Americans are a minority among the ethnic minorities. The Chinese community needs someone who understands the community, conveys the voice of the Chinese, and conveys the government's information back in a timely manner. He said that Yu Yanfen’s family is a typical story of Chinese immigrants. They started with a small business and gradually established themselves in the United States. Only those who understand immigrants and the growth process of small business owners can effectively serve the citizens. The Yu family is proud to have a descendant like Yu Yanfen, and as an old overseas Chinese, we are also proud to have such young talents of Chinese descent. Yang Tong, an ordinary citizen of Phoenix City and a well-known Chinese doctor, said that because she has a multi-ethnic perspective and understands the plight of small business owners, she always brings fresh ideas to many government decisions. State Senator Linda Gray, a teacher and friend at work, emphasized that Yu Yanfen has the characteristics of a modern woman. She cares about women's rights, children's education, and every resident living in the community to have a happy home. "Home" is a basic unit of our society. Whether you are one person or ten people, start solving problems from the unit of home, and use the standard of "home" to measure the results of problem solving (home includes both material and spiritual standards). I believe that the new state senator candidate Yu Yanfen can create a happy home for every citizen "from small homes to everyone". If you want to know more about Yu Yanfen, please click: www.
