Ford is recalling more than 140,000 Focus vehicles in the U.S. Ford Motor Co. is recalling 140,310 2012 model Focus vehicles in the United States because the passenger-side wiper motor needs repair, according to U.S. safety regulators. According to documents provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the wiper motor is missing a sealing plug, allowing water to enter the motor's electrical connection, which can cause the wiper to fail, reduce visibility, and increase the risk of a crash. Ford said there have been no accidents or injuries related to the issue. NHTSA said Ford plans to notify owners the week of May 21 that the wiper motors need to be cleaned and sealed. In a separate NHTSA filing, Chrysler will recall 1,689 2012 Jeep Patriot and Compass SUVs because the vehicle's fuel tank system contains a damaged valve. In the event of an accident or rollover, fuel can leak, increasing the risk of fire, NHTSA said. Chrysler says there are currently no accidents, leaks, fires or injuries related to this issue. The recall is expected to begin in June.
