Chinese Restaurant Association of Arizona (CRAA) and the Pepsi Cola Team showed a lot of enthusiasm in their preparation for the big race on Tempe Town Lake on Saturday and Sunday, March 22 and 23. The 22 person team paddled their way to victory on the 500 yard course.

The Honorable Vice Mayor of Tempe Onnie Shekerjian and Community Leader Barry Wong had the honor of dotting the eye of the dragon and ‘Waking up the dragon’ for the start of the dragon boat races on Tempe Town Lake. Miss Phoenix Chinese Queen Princess Serrena Lee assisted in the ceremony. The hundreds year old ceremony gave good luck and good fortune to all participating in the festival.

The 11th annual Arizona Dragon Boat Festival opening ceremony included many important people that made the festival a success.

A record 75 dragon boat teams competed in the 11th year of racing on Tempe Town Lake.
