Deputies affiliated with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office seized approximately 7,500 pounds of marijuana in the past 10 days. Most of these drugs are found abandoned in the desert or hidden in cars. On Saturday, agents patrolling near Interstate 8 discovered an abandoned vehicle and further investigation revealed that it contained 1,500 pounds of marijuana. Patrol officers on Monday seized 1,000 pounds of marijuana hidden under linoleum in a stolen Chevrolet truck on Route 238. Border Patrol agents also seized nearly 5,000 pounds of marijuana in the South over the weekend, worth approximately $2.4 million, and arrested a Mexican citizen. On November 28, at the St. Louis port, a 29-year-old woman tried to cross the border in an SUV, but a drug detection dog discovered that she had 20 packages of methamphetamine weighing 32 pounds hidden under the hood. The woman was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations, authorities said. Her 10-year-old daughter was left in the custody of her grandmother.
